Merlin is a male flamepoint siamese mix, born in approximately June 2000. Largely off-white, he has an orange-striped tail and beautiful orange ears and a flame-point face. We adopted Merlin through Heaven's Gate Sanctuary at Petsmart on Saturday, June 9, 2001. We had gone to Petsmart with the intention of buying some fish for the second aquarium. While Bob was picking out the fish, I went to get some cat food, and walked past the adoption center. I stopped in front of the cages and started to cry, something VERY unusual for me. Bob came over to see what was the matter, and with tears streaming down my face, I told him it was just so sad to see all those cats in cages. I told him I really wanted this guy or one of the other cats - he fell in love with him too, and that was that. Merlin's original name was "Pooh." We changed his name on the way home because he got very upset and clawed his way out of the cardboard carrier in about 30 seconds flat, he just shredded right through the side of the box. It was rather "magical" how fast he did that! His previous owners - henceforth referred to as "the low lifes" - had abandoned him in a locked apartment when they moved out. A neighbor had realized the cat had been abandoned, and arranged for him to go to the sanctuary. He'd been with Heaven's Gate since April 25, 2001. The sanctuary manager said that Merlin had been up for adoption at Petsmart earlier, and a man and woman walked by his cage. The woman said, "Oh, look, there's Pooh." The sanctuary owner said to her, "You're the one who left him locked in your apartment after you moved out??!!" The low lifes made a quick beeline for the door. Merlin is a remarkably friendly, affectionate, sociable cat. Unfortunately, he is low on the male cat totem pole and spends a lot of time hanging around on the kitchen counters where OC and Tuxedo can't swat at him.
