Granted, if you are on delayed quotes, it's far harder to react, but if you are using a full svc broker or have live quotes, I always contend it's best to wait a minimum of 5 minutes, and preferably at least 15 minutes, to get a sense of both the stock you want to buy and the "M". Even if this means you end up paying more, you will do so with greater confidence that your action is correct. I think HD was mentioned as a more conservative investment with a steady earnings stream and good to own during bumpy market periods, like now, I think LUV was mentioned because he was in Dallas, they are in Dallas (?), and part of a leading group (airlines). I think sometimes we are all too rigid with some of these rules, especially market cap. One of his chart examples was Dell Computer, which was a very good performer over the last 12 or 18 months. I don't know the number of shares, but way past 25 million. I think the key thing is growth, and if you can find a larger company that is growing rapidly, there is no reason to ignore it just because it might have 50 or 100 million (or more) shares outstanding. - - - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Feb 1998 19:52:00 -0500 From: "Tom Worley" Subject: Re: [CANSLIM] Option Expiration Dates Actually different options expire on different days, but the equity options and the equity related index options do expire on the Saturday following the third Friday of each month, thus the third Friday is your last chance to do anything with them before they either expire or are exercised on Saturday. Insiders buying (sept, nov @ $17-$20) according to DG online. Currently ranked 102 out of 197. In Sept-Oct it was ranked approx 12-15. It sold down pretty hard! However, for relevance purposes the Airlines group was ranked 137-141 in Sept. ( Yes I keep a database of the group rankings for historical purposes and to compliment my sector/group analysis & studies I've continued.) So go figure, The machinery group ( and entire Industrial sector ) sold down hard in October through December. I spotted what appeared to be a typical volume exhaustion on the sell off in the group. Since then a number of individual groups in the Industrial sector have picked up strength. Group OBV's have reversed trends and are trending up. However, not all. There are a couple of lagging groups in the sector and that makes me a bit more hesitant. Specifically for OMQP, could the prior high last summer offer significant resistance? It doesn't look like it to me, but you never know. If you think we are in an extended trading range, my oscillators have topped and should reverse here. If you think we are going to new and (significantly) higher ground, then you are more bullish than I. However, I do not use market indexes in my process of evaluating stocks to purchase or to sell.
