EDAC also had a nice day today. Haven't had time to study the mkt in much detail, but my general sense is that there is a lot of fairly rapid rotation going on, with money jumping out of groups/stocks that have made big gains recently and into whatever sector is hot right now (such as banking due all the mergers). A review of the "Market Indicator" charts for NYSE and NASDAQ at DG Online does show that neither mkt is overbot, altho the up/down moving averages in both cases have converged, and new hi/lows are suggesting a convergence as well. As memory serves me, I don't think the run at 9000 has been much different than it was at 8000 or even 7000. Century marks are tough to break, esp after the mkt has moved to such high premiums in the face of declining profits. A lot of what is going on right now is caution ahead of a potentially difficult earnings cycle. The next two weeks could set the pattern for the next two to three months. I don't like all the 9000 hype crap, and I don't like the fact that after that down week we had, this last little rally hasn't been able to hold on. Yesterday looked pretty bad, and today opened with try of a good day and hasn't been able to hold, its only 1:30, but dow is down 50 and I wouldn't doubt it closes down over 100. I'm 60% in cash today, and am watching my remaining positions very close. Tuesday was not a "distribution day" in the "warning" sense, rather just plain old selling. Distribution has been going on rather heavily since early march, in my opinion. The most recent day in the Nas was last Thursday. I'm now on the look out for a "failed rally attempt", which would like happen Monday or Tuesday next. Look back at the Nas chart for November. It was a classic, and not dissimilar to what we are watching currently. Good picks. MINI doesn't have any sales increase but somebody is buying. Take a look at JTAX and NSS and see if you see any similarities. Noticed that IBD and Daily Graphs show a lower low in the Nasdaq index for Thursday's action. If that were accurate (which it is not), with the increased daily volume over Wednesday, we would have a potential bottom from which to count for "follow through" to the upside. However, because the index did not make a new low in this mini-correction, I'm still on the lookout for a failed rally attempt early in the week. Nice article in IBD today concerning sentiment numbers and mutual fund cash positions as contrary indicators. jeff - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Apr 1998 00:14:45 -0400 From: "Tom Worley" Subject: Re: [CANSLIM] Re.
