The same point is made in today's Weblink, from which the below comes from. Though the Nasdaq followed through on Wednesday's initial rally, investors shouldn't rush out to buy stocks. First, volume gains lagged the massive point gains on the major indexes. Also, few leading stocks feature good-looking bases. Without a spate of leading stocks, a rally by the major indexes holds less promise. One can buy today and maybe grab some early returns, but there will be many more less-risky opportunities if this is really a sustained rally. norm - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Katherine Malm" To: Sent: Monday, July 29, 2002 9:04 PM Subject: Re: WON & FTD (was:[CANSLIM] Cramer) MessageHi Duke, The market "officially" made a FTD today, but the point that WON made was that you can't have a strong bull market with only a few leading stocks such as AZO. That may be boilerplate, but an important element of WON's discipline. I think the comments in tomorrow's "Big Picture" are equally as cautious. He did make a point which has been made several times in the IBD lately, and that is that the obvious leaders at this point are consumer stocks and are very unlikely to be the fallen angel tech stocks of the last Bull. Wise advise, as the uninitiated will be jumping on the old leaders while the smart folks will be following new leadership to decent gains. And Bill O'Neil pretty much brushed them off, answering a question about Autozone with his "there are no apparent new leaders" mantra. For those of you who did not see the show tonight, you missed nothing from Bill. He just towed the usual CANSLIM Investors Corner line. And obviously, no call on whether or not today was an FTD. That remains to be called after (way after?) the fact...as usual.
