Hi, Does anyone have any more info on the band Swing Dynamique? An excerpt from http://web.consulan.com/swing/article1.htm: Forming a Django Reinhard tribute band might appear like an odd career choice for a musician. ... Mike King ...says the decision to found a group dedicated to the music of the late, great Paris-based Bypsy jazz guitarist was the result of a vision he had five years ago at a fruitstand in rural British Columbia. ... There are also plans to record a live album, which will be released on Mainstream Records, the brand-new label founded by Men Without Hats singer Ivan Doroschuk. The head Hat has also just signed on as Swing Dynamique's manager. ... About 95 per cent of the Swing Dynamique material is Reinhardt originals, though they currently do one tango tune and end the sets with a swing-flavoured medley of the Jimi Hendrix classics, Third Stone from the Sun and Purple Haze. Cool! Yes, its true. My birthday is November 12. I've been so busy, I even forgot about it a couple of days ago. I'm still spending about 2 1/2 hours a day (or every other day) making videos. By the way, Carl's your videos are finished. I've already started #20-#30 last week. I'm actually on about #25 now. I should have ALL of these mailed by next weekend. Go ahead and send me $10 if you are #20-#30. Oh yeah, the master tapes are still "as I received them". I will let you all know if I see any wear on them. I do realize that this is slow, slow, slow. I am basically working from midnight to 9 am every night at my company, and then I work for the hats fans another couple of hours every morning until I hit my bed. Don't get me wrong, I love doing this! I just want to explain why I can't do 3 tapes a day or something like that. My boss has been hassling me over why I've got the lowest overtime ranking in the department. Little does he know, I'm looking for another job (this takes more time still). I have some good news! I have some more hats footage to tape for everyone. I have been slowly accumulating more stuff during the process of making these videos. All the better for all of you! Now I can make some audio cassettes as well. I will tell everyone 1/2 of what I have in mind. The other half, you will find out in time. Because Mike is in between jobs at the moment, I may be able to record some cassettes for some people, later. I won't agree to this until I've finished everyone's video, everyone. Here it is: 1. I've got a near CD quality DAT copy of Freeways (euromix) and Antarctica 1980. This is off of a sealed Freeways LP I picked up in Canada around 1991. Thinking ahead, I put it on digital tape on the very first play, therefore- CD quality, much better than the Gre. HAt. CD. I also have the Rhythm of Youth CD, w/ other freeways tracks + freeways casstte w/ other versions. >-I am in a position to make a Freeways cassette for people who want one<- This is side 1 or the cassette. 2. Someone has sent me a near perfect copy of Rhythm of Youth concert from a CFNY radio show. He sent me his original cassette and I put it directly to digital tape as well. Safety Dance, I Like, WDTBG, Ideas for Walls, The Great Ones Remember, Messiahs Die Young, Freeways, Security, I Got the Message, Moderne Dancing, Things in my Life. This is Side 2 of the cassette. This is most of Mike's rare and live CDs anyway. Although I don't have a CD writer, I can make some killer metal cassettes copies to hold us all until Mikey comes through. I was going to offer to tape ROY and FOLK CDs, but thanks to Carl, these are soon available! Yeah! (Hey Carl, any chance of a Freeways mini CD release?) The coolest thing just happened. A friend from high school whom I haven't spoken to in years called me up on the phone. He asked me if I knew why he was calling. When I replied that I didn't, he reminded me that today is Men Without Hats Day. I couldn't help but laugh out loud. Tom and I were big MWH fans back in the days of Rhythm Of Youth, and we decided (along with another friend and fan, Dave) that November 14th should be MWH Day, in honor of the cute lyric from "Things In My Life". The only custom for MWH Day was to listen to the first album, of course. To this day (what, a dozen years later?) I think I have only forgotten once. Until this year, when it completely slipped my mind. Big thanks to Tom for reminding me. Note: The Tom mentioned is not the famous listmember, though when I told him I was on a MWH list, he laughed and thought about joining up (we'll see).
