From: grigsby@netgate.net Subject: (hdproject) Happy Big Round Number Date: 31 Dec 1999 01:02:54 -0800 As Dogbert once said, "People fear big round numbers." It's BIIIIIG...and ROOOUUUND... Scared yet? Everyone I know has so totally discounted any possible issues that I'm no longer sure there won't be any -- going on the theory that everyone is usually wrong. I figure it will mean lots of annoyance, like maybe UPS or the Post Office isn't Y2K-compliant and millions of dollars worth of packages end up delivered to Mrs. Thelma Cranston of Poughkeepsie, NY. But keep some fresh water around anyway, and a propane heater if you have it. Remember the 2/2/2 rule: humans can survive roughly 2 hours of exposure to freezing temps, 2 days without water, and 2 weeks without food. Sounds about right. So far my biggest headache was getting my old (ancient) laptop fitted with a Y2K patch. It wasn't particularly simple, and I can't help but think that is probably the rule. If so, I think threre probably will be at least a few problems. I just saw Tokyo and Soul make the change over, and they didn't go black. > > But keep some fresh water around anyway, and a propane heater if you have > it. I should be in good shape, I've got alternate heat, about 2 months worth of canned goods and dog food ( I keep a stocked pantry anyway to make use of case sales) and about 200 gal of fresh water that I finished stocking yesterday (I have 2 horses and a dog, so that amounts to about a month's worth). Happy 2000 everyone. Wontolla wontolla@netonecom.net - To unsubscribe to hdproject, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" with "unsubscribe hdproject" in the body of the message. Heh. :) In the better safe than sorry department, we went to 12-hour shifts Thursday at 7pm. I just spent 12 hours looking at empty streets. Then again, if my beeper goes off at midnight, I may just throw it through the window. :) Happy New Years, everyone. katmandu1@home.com - members.home.net/katmandu1 - katmandu@arches.uga.edu "When the cowboys and arabs draw down on each other at noon, in the cool dusty air of the city boardroom, will you stand by a passive spectator or the market dictators?
