A Cease and Desist letter was sent to the list from parties representing Bill and or Jimmy (that is, it was forwarded to the list not sent directly from said parties). Depends. The guy who originally had a copy of made@3am was ordered to return the tape to Jimmy as he threatened to sue. But as of yet i don't think anyone has had their hand slapped for putting mp3s up on their site. Fact is, released or not the material is still owned by KLF Communications and it's up to them to decide what to do with it. Maybe, in five years, B&J would like to issue a KLF Anthology of sorts. But if they find that tracks like Love Trance were widely distributed they wouldn't feel a release would be worth the expense. Thus, they are losing money. And I don't think it's that people think publicly posting addresses is illegal, they are just protecting the distributor from potential prosecution. Awhile back I posted some Art of Noise promo tracks that were in high demand. I quickly rec'd an email from their label, ZTT, ordering me to remove them. Let's take this to the extreme and say they sent a lawyer to my door and slapped a lawsuit in my hand. If the site was underground and the address not posted for the world to see but only distributed to trusted friends, that would never have happened and I wouldn't have been fined $10,000 (theoretically speaking). *That's* why people try to keep these things quiet. You are not entitled to mp3s. And just because you can't run out and buy the tracks on cd doesn't make it any more legal. And regarding the issue of copyrights: you really don't have a way of knowing if these tracks are copyrighted. And even if they weren't that doesn't mean they're up for grabs for anyone to have. They are still the intellectual property of Bill and Jimmy. - -paul Currently in rotation: FGTH - 2000 remixes; Too Much Joy - various; Utah Saints - 1 # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Sep 2000 15:43:20 +0100 From: "Steve Allan" Subject: (klf) 12" enquiry Hello folks, Last week I bought a KLF 12" during a visit to London.
