I have found a LOT of neat places to ride around me for $170. $150 for a GPS to keep me from getting lost! :-) $20 for a 90 page atlas of my state (Florida) with GPS coordinates listed. The map shows detail down to 1/8 mile. I specifically choose routes that are on the "dotted" roads which the legend shows as unimproved roads. Florida has seemingly millions of miles of dirt (read sand) roads. I did this on the way home from bike week in daytona yesterday and it took me five hours instead of the 2.5 that the interstate would have but it was so much fun! These shops can't compete and go out of business, and then everyone if FORCED to shop at Wal-mart, because there is no place else. I've seen it happen. When the Wall claims to be small town friendly, they weren't kidding, its their favorite marketplace. Second, I personally love McDonalds, but then the McD's here in E. It had a Ducati Pantah 650cc, twin cylinder, with 2 desmo valves per cylinder, engine. The bike was more dirt oriented than later Ducati E-900 Elefants. Alas, it was only imported during 1987 (and maybe 1988). This bike, while neat sounding and fun to ride on the street, is a good deal heavier than the KLR 650. I wouldnt add too much air to the forks. The manuals in most recommend either atmospheric pressure or a max of 6 or 7 psi. Remember too that air will expand when the forks heat up and add more pressure and make the forks stiffer. Better to put some preload spacers on top of the fork springs. Anybody know if 10-psi cold will damage the seals, or promote early demise? Maybe I should measure the fork pressure after a good long washboard... == Rev. Hey, if you're stuck, then obviously you go to the store that's open/available. But I plan all of my consumer purchases that aren't emergent, and I make a personal choice to NEVER buy at Wal-mart, and support the local businesses unstead. (Even though I will inherent a large amount of stock in Wal-mart due to wife's mother's stock options for her last 20 years working at Sam's Club.) I personally think that as Americans, we really need to be more responsible with how we spend our dollars. The only thing American that I won't buy (as if there are a large amount of consumer products made in USA anymore!) are motorcycles and cars. But that's only because there are very few decent autos out there made in USA, IMHO. I prefer Jap and Euro engineering and finish to American, and I have owned 14 different cars in the last 12 years. Of those, only three were American, two Jeeps and one Firebird. What I object to are the unfair trading practices of Japan in regards to the trade deficit, and the American / Euro garment fashion industry; brainwashing billions of people that they must be slaves to mindless fashion trends, and using near slave labor to make their products, which they sell at huge profits. (Can you say Nike?) The one that gets me the most are the sweat shops on Saipan, a US protectorate. The manufacturers get away with putting "Made in USA" tags on these clothes, and most of their labor force comes from China. Well, obviously I'm ranting off on a tangent again, and I have a test to study for. You might want to reconsider not suing him for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, what if you don't heal up properly? My wife was rear ended in our car 3 years ago, and she still has back problems, and likely always will. What's that worth to you for having a lifetime of pain for a preventable accident? Say you're going to physical therapy for over a year. At some point, the insurance company won't want to pay anymore, and will want to settle. My next point is that you owe it to all of us other riders. One more lawsuit for money will get the insurance company's attention, and insurance companies have strong lobbies. If the insurance company gets tired of extraordinary medical expenses and large settlements, then maybe they will push legislation for increased driver training, and thereby prevent car vs. bike accidents in the future. Its a dream, but its still within the realm of reality. Here in WA, riders aren't required to even have insurance, since legal precedence shows that the courts always side with the rider when it comes to accidents, even when the rider was at fault. I carried liability and medical insurance last year anyway, but then I realized that it was pointless, since it wasn't required, and the max medical coverage that my company would give was $5000, for rider and passenger. I decided that money would be better spent on a life insurance policy for my family. Hey, if the issue ever comes up that you struck the driver, just say that you were suffering from post traumatic stress. And just remember to admit nothing, deny everything, and make counter accusations. Jeff ------------------------------ End of klr650-digest V2 #101 ****************************
