Any information will help as I'm hoping to make some type of purchase this week. Does anyone have any knowledge about, or experience with, "Teknic" Freeway Touring boots? I'm looking to get a pair of inexpensive boots, and I saw these. They look pretty good and the description sounds O.K., but I don't know about the true quality. Quality is outstanding. Check out www.galls.com , they are a supplier to the emergency services, but sell to the general public. Their services is outstanding as well. Here's where I saw the Teknics: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/product.asp?Dept=&ID=155 There is a lot of info on this in the archives and we had quite a thread at one time. I think it might of been under dual sport riding gear...many of us were wondering whether we could get by with good quality leather gore-tex hiking boots so that when we were doing distance riding we'd have something comfortable to walk in without the extra bulk of a motorcycle specific boot. As you can listers had every imaginable take on this. I think Bogdan swore by the Vasque Sundowners. Jeff liked Danner Combat Boots...You might note that our poet laureate, Juan just broke his toe while riding off-road in hiking boots. So, I would say that you want to buy something with as much protection as you can afford. I bought Combat Touring Boots and carry hiking boots on long trips. I can't stand the heavy duty off-road boots for lack of comfort...so it was my compromise... Catching up on my e-mails. I just thought that I would reply to this oil overfill bit. I once overfilled my old man's 8hp Briggs & Stratton Lawnmower engine. It was low on oil so I added a quart. I cut about an acre of lawn, then went to shut it off. It dieseled for about 20 minutes. I was just a kid and was genuinely frightened - not about the lawnmower blowing up, but about losing my life at the hands of my father for blowing the lawnmower up. Anyways, it finally stopped running. I think that I loosened out the sparkplug to get it to stop. In that hour or so I wore out the rings to the point that the lawnmower used some oil after that, but nothing too excessive. Point being, that B&S motor probably only used 1 quart of oil from dry. Double it and you will have problems for sure. I had an XJ750 Yamaha. Anyone that has ever owned a Seca or Maxim will probably be able to tell you about the annoying oil sensor it had. With the proper amount of oil in it, under normal-if slightly agressive-acceleration, the light would flicker on. Keeping 3 l of oil in the motor instead of 2.5 l prevented this. No problems with seals or anything else. I think overfilling with 1/2 litre or so of oil, the only problem you may encounter is windage losses in various areas of the motor (just don't ask me where - I still haven't pulled the flywheel on my bike - but that is another story...) Another point to make - I've drained the motor on the KLR, then opened it up. There's probably another 1/2 litre in the crankcase that doesn't drain out. This makes me feel better about that time that all I could drain out was 1 litre at oil change time... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Subscribe to Dual Sport News...write to dsneditor@softhome.net for info. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 17:47:43 -0600 From: "John Houchins" Subject: Re: (klr650) NKLR Persis Khambatta This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - ------=_NextPart_000_007E_01BF2BA3.B0D55DA0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable From: Arne Larsen To: R.
