I've examined archives, as well as various websites you folks have recommended. I'd like to purchase a duel sport motorcycle, and have been leaning towards the Kawi. I ride a cruiser now, and am really unsure about what to buy. Most of my riding will be on a road or trail of some kind; I don't plan any severe off-roading. It sounds like the KLR 650 fits the bill. My question is this: Should I spend the $4000-$5000 on a new bike, or can you give me some guidelines on good buy on something used. Any big changes in the last couple of years I should be aware of? Should I stay under a certain number of miles? How much do they depreciate? I will buy a new bike if these criteria warrant it; however, since I know next to nothing about Duel Sports, maybe buying something used would be a good first step. I do want something dependable, and don't plan to do any major repairs or mods until I learn much more about this type of motorcycle. Thanks much! Yesterday it started and ran for about 2 minutes and then speeded up a little and DIED. It has gas (fuel comes out when I loosen the screw on the bottom of the carb) and it has a spark. Any help would be appreciated. I did get my BMW running and have been riding it. You don't suppose, naw, the KLR wouldn't get jealous. He wants $1000. I drove it and it's pretty sound, but I tried to low-ball him and he was insulted. He'd probably take $800 for it. You should buy it and chop up yours for parts you'd be ahead of the game.
