Hey Dude, One of the merits of knowing your machine is to do your own mechanical work.Sounds like you found out the hard way.Besides, you ride with more zen knowing that the work was done right. Most dealers "all brands" are out to rip you.Buy a manual and start reading. I figured that since I've owned my BMW, the saving in mechanical work almost equaled the cost of the bike by doing it myself. "Knowledge is Power" Good luck with Kawasaki the factory parts are a rip off too. Like Mark quoted "start small and you end up big" Note, most dealers will let you use their special tools if you break down on the road. The secret of being a good wrench is to share your knowledge. Always remember that your paying a mechanic for what he knows not his time. Yes, I am still on the KLR list but haven't been able to really provide much insight or ask any question on account that I have been extremely busy with work and other things. I have had a few of those 1000 message days... believe me... I am still riding the KLR a bit, the climate I am in is very similar to Seattle so there has been a ton of rain for the past few months, so there hasn't been many excursions. Plus you guys are keeping Arne (A.K.A. Wheelie King) way to busy with this list, so we haven't had a chance to roost any mud in some time. Vik and myself are both getting ready for our trip to Baja for this Christmas season, so this has been taking up a lot of planning as well,,, a la KLR of coarse,,, should be a blast... if anyone is going to be down there looking to ride - e-mail me off list.. Other than that all is well - considering the blanket hasn't come off the Katana since the accident - that will be next years project to get it back on the road. I have briefly gone over it, and it needs a gas tank, forks, l/eng. cover, 4 side pegs and mounts, shifter, rear brake lever, handle bar, two mirrors, four signals, and a whole lot of body work.. So I haven't really decide how I am going to do the repairs, if at all. I can't justify taking such a large loss if I got rid of it, on a virtually new bike. That's for the Kat List to help decide,,, but let me add they have nothing to the quality content around this list.... I will be attending the Moab Rally this year again in June - can't wait for that,,, so lets hope that none of those internal KLR clocks - sophisticated as they are, stop ticking at the stroke of midnight this year... or KHI might have a lot of messages to answer, well maybe 1343 to be exact - refer to: Sarah Barwig's message 're: NKLR And so it goes....' BTW Sarah, hilarious....
