I saw another guy on a 99 KLR at the Santa Paula Airport. Never saw so many KLR's in one day before. Anyone? When I slow to a stop on apparently flat pavement, it feels like my front end is bobbing up and down in much the same way it would if the front wheel were oval in shape. The wheel, of course, looks round. Could a subtle defect in the roundness of the wheel produce such a noticeable bob? While I noticed this long ago I think it is more noticeable now that I put progressive springs up front. The ride is otherwise smooth at all speeds over about 10 mph. Tires are relatively unworn sportbike type tires. Ever thought of the possibility that your steering head bearings might be a bit loose? There's the bit in the manual that shows how to check for it and Gino's got an article on it at the KLR650 web page. This is not exactly the > same image Harley had in the > 70's. If it did then AMF never would have let it go. Umm. I gotta disagree with ya. The HD image pre-AMF was something completely different than it is today. (see the A&E special on "outlaw bikers" for a reasonable mass media version of events) AMF bought H-D, tried to alter its image (much the same way Honda was doing at the time -- you meet the nicest people on a Honda, etc.) to be less hell's angels, more family oriented. AMF didn't give any factory line workers stock in the company, so they didn't take as much care as they could have with assembling the machines. H-D brand started to make people think of bad machinery, mostly due to AMF management practices. Someone at H-D got a spine and bought the company back, with stock going to the assembly line workers, who suddenly cared about the product, since profits got into their pockets thru the stocks. Harley gained a total quality feel. H-D is currently trying to figure out how to shake the "Yuppie Insta-Cool" (desirable icon) market -- the guys in charge don't much care for it. I wish 'em luck, but don't think it's gonna happen any time soon. Info here is mostly my opinion synthesized from 1) A&E outlaw bikers, 2) growing up in Milwaukee in the '70s, and 3) discussions on an airplane with the woman from the pr agency who's trying to design the website to accompany H-D's new museum. - ---o&>o--- Sarah Barwig sarah@weddingchannel.com Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Support Dual Sport News... dsneditor@softhome.net To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank. I just had a brilliant idea while perusing the Givi website: Can you use the Universal Lock Holder as a muffler gaurd for soft baggage? Check out the Givi "Kit and Parts" web page, at www.givi.it/sub_index/english/kit.html They actually show a KLR in the picture with the Lock Holder installed...which is what gave me the idea. Do y'all think purchasing this lock holder (and the lock) will work as a muffler gaurd for soft luggage (admittedly with some sacrifice in convenience), as an alternative to spending $200 on racks or $40 on a dedicated muffler gaurd?
