NKLR (klr650) NKLR - Dakar Rumors ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 14 Jan 2000 23:32:56 -0600 From: Juan Carlos Ibarra Subject: (klr650) Trip report Hi guys, I just got back from a 20 day riding vacation. This trip proved to be a life enhancing experience that I'd like to share with the list. The first thing I'd like to say is : plan as little as possible. The only thing I was certain of when I hit the start button at my house, was that at some point I'd had to start back, and that I wanted to visit Jose Luis Vazquez in Puerto Vallarta. Having no plan was a wonderfull thing. The first proof of this was when I finally agreed that Cecilia (my partner) could come along for 7 days in this "solo" trip. This was a great thing, because it gave us the chance to have the most fun we've had in months. Another important consideration is to ask yourself why do you want to go on a long solo trip. I believe there are only two answers: you want to get away from it all for some time; or you want to get INTO it all. The first option obviously sucks, but it is very common I think. This takes us to another fact of solo riding: if you want to do this trip because you are searching for a change in your life, change whatever needs to be changed in your life BEFORE you go riding. Otherwise your mind will bring along a large backpack of worries and routines that will not allow you ride "into" anything. Remember that you ARE your life, there's no way you can escape from your creation. So in order to ride soulfully you need to live a soulfull life. Don't ride because you want to temporarily forget the ugliness in your life, but because your routines and fears don't hold you back any longer. This fantastic trip strated in Valle de Bravo, went into Mexico City; headed to Patzcuaro, Michoacan; then into the Sierra Madre on to the Pacific coast, all the way along innumerable beaches to Jalisco and into the Sierra again, and finally back into Valle de Bravo. If you want to see some pictures, go to http://www.teleweb.com.mx/jbalam I will write more about the trip in further postings. Sing it brother! My soul is aching for both and escape and discovery. Of course, wherever you go, there you are, and you are absolutely right, you ARE your life. Dream it, live it, and do it 'cause there's only one time around that counts. Wolfdan PS: The meaning of life is that it ends. Recently bought a 96 KLR (first bike I've owned) and hve been reading the list for all of 3 days; soaking up the knowledge and witticisms regarding my newest love. I visited family in Colorado this past summer and my brother-in-law took me out on some seriously fun single track my first day out. I knew within five minutes of riding the mountain trails that I would HAVE to have a dual-sport soon. It took me 4 months of staring at internet pictures of various varieties (not to mention the 4 months of staring at my bank balances) before deciding upon a KLR650. It may be a tank as Heather said, but in NYC traffic, a tank is about as small as I'd be willing to go. Of course a week after actually having the bike in my posession the temps here dropped to the teens (windchill in the sub-zero teens)...but that problem is easily remedied with multiple layers. To Kurt: big congrats to you, man...I just got married this summer and it was the best thing I ever did (contrary to popular belief there are women out there who are supportive, beautiful, talented, and WANT me to have a motorcycle). To Raamses: my thoughts and prayers go out to you and yours. Anyone in the Northeast area, give me a call 718-963-0852. Love to go riding sometime. dat brooklyn bum _______________________________________________________ Get 100% FREE Internet Access powered by Excite Visit http://freeworld.excite.com Visit the KLR650 archives at http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 Support Dual Sport News... dsneditor@softhome.net To subscribe/unsubscribe send message to majordomo@lists.xmission.com leave subject blank. So I thought I'd reply to several post at one time. Here goes. >Kurt said (it's Friday, I'm working on my 4th glass of a lovely red wine...and I'm one week away from being married to the lovely and talented K)< Congrats dude! I dont know much about that married stuff. But I wish yall much happiness! 8^} >Heather said Also, I am trying to sell it, I need to start acting like a student, poor! It's in great shape! < Yea, just use it and get rid of it. Just kidding, the KLR is a beast. But I plan on keeping mine for a long time. I enjoyed your post. Nice story. It beats working. >Juan said I just got back from a 20 day riding vacation. This trip proved to be a life enhancing experience that I'd like to share with the list. So far I like them and would recomend them. I havent tried them during summer, or hard rain, but you can take the liners out, and open vents, so they should be ok. >HDKLR@AOL said Im heading from So.
