It will work fine with a tube, but will be a bit heavier than a tubetype with a tube combo. I know lots of riders who run the heavier tubeless with a tube for added security. Optimum is 1:9; 1/10 of the total weight should be on the hitch. I wouldn't go far from that in either direction, but if the ratio changes between loaded/unloaded, I'd keep a minimum of 1/10 on the tongue. So long as the rating of the hitch isn't exceeded, you can pile as much as you want on the tongue. Going below 1/10 can cause handling problems; even instability. No I used the dry bags without a set of side protectors for a trip with no troubles - just mount them farther forward on the bike so they don't touch the exhaust. This will scratch up your plastioc side pannels so use a cloth cover if you care about this - I didn't bother. > Who is this >mysterious Obe Wan? How can I get a hold of him? Does anyone have a rack >premade or is this a special order? Tim Bernard? Tim Bernard is the man to call. Maybe he has a set ready and can UPS them to you. Yes, my prototype box will be ready to look at in a day or so then its off to the powder coaters and ready to use. The problem is this box will in no way help you with soft luggage. If you really want side protectors and can't get any through Tim in time a visit to your local steel or aluminum fabrication shop will probbaly get you soemthing functional and cheap if not pretty. Kawi also sells a right side side protector, but from the comments on the list it sounds cheezy and expensive. You may need to check to see if your side panels are similar dimensionally to the U.S. KLR. If they are specific to your model's tank configuration only then you have another challenge to deal with.
