It has a lid which keeps dust and dirt out when you are not using it. I also bought a bulk oil loader from Napa. It holds up to 5 quarts. When I change oil in my bikes or cars, I measure out the required amount into the bulk loader (which has a tube for dispensing the oil, no need for a funnel). Works great. The previous owner put on Renthals and farkeled it considerably, so these may not be stock. I was looking for something more simple than drilling out and replacing with heli- coils. I'm not very mechanically minded. Has anyone had this problem or aware of any simple adapters? Thanks for your help. See if JC Whitney offers them for Yamaha specifically. By the way, a KLR friend of mine (Andres) tossed his JC Whitney absorbers in the trash after a few months because they only shifted the vibration to a different RPM range but didn't reduce it. I also have an ME55A on my KLR, and noticed right off the bat how much it makes the bike look like an urban road warrior machine when put in contrast with the relatively skinny looking ME33 Laser 21" front. I haven't had any interference problems with these tires....my suspension is stock everything (although I did notice that the clearance of the tire to the chain guard looked really close). My experience with lowering blocks has been that if I really don't need them then don't use them. The reason is that I wore out my wiring to the taillight of a Yamaha road bike. I didn't know what was happening until one day I just happened to be cleaning the rear wheel and noticed that the underpart of the rear fender was way too clean in one spot(no etching on the tires was evident)! Any wire routing, fasteners, or components that protrude into the wheel travel area should be considered a potential danger. I was running a 2 into 1 header system and the noise may have overshadowed any grinding I might have heard otherwise. One can easily see the clearance on the swingarm, fender sides, or frame, when the bike is sitting still, but I think you brought up a point that can easily be overlooked. Approximately 3.2 seconds later I realized it was a bad idea (at any speed). Way too much "rattle capability." Even if the lock was strong and even if the chin strap held do you really want that thing banging around so close to your rear tire? At highway speeds no less...
