If you feel the > >> need to flame me just because I expressed my opinion, the so be it. > >> All the best, Tom no, its not (a list for insiders)...but it is an outgrowth and reflection of the people who started it. This is a young list. Many who've visited it says it is one of the best. One of the informal customs continued by the people who started on the list together is that no KLR question goes unanswered. I'm certain we've missed some but not very many. Think about that for a moment. A list of 500 (many others who've come and gone) or so members in operation for two years and still there is a continuing quiet tradition that obtains from day 1 of answering any and every question that comes along. I remember a couple of months ago when my energy was on the wane I posted geez it seems like there have been a few questions that haven't been answered...I then responded to a couple I recalled. I received a private message from Eric R. who said, "I've been keeping track and have made sure that people received information." I was stunned. I find that kind of quiet concern simply amazing. And it is going on all the time. For those of us who've been part of the faithful few from the beginning it is fascinating to watch the turnover on the list and to see the same questions being asked now that were asked two years ago when there wasn't any body of knowledge assembled. And who are the people who're doing the answering? Simply, the people who've noticed what this list is about. When they join in that spirit they become an "insider" just as much as anyone else here. It is pretty natural after awhile to stand in awe of one another's contribution to the list. It becomes pride and appreciation. Then you add to that the kind of sacrifice made by people like Gino Pokluda and Bill Haycock, and yes, Fred Hink...people who've contributed untold hours to sharing knowledge and creating a forum for it to be shared. Then you go one step further and take the leap and come and meet those same people at Moab and ride with them and share a glass of cheer together. It's just another way of connecting with folks. I could go on about the importance of encouraging NKLR banter...but it would be obviously biased and besides it is Arne's list now. Yeah Bill. I bought the T500 two summers ago. I had one a '68 model first year of US import in '70 when a sailor in San Diego. Geeze we complain about vibration today? This bike will vibrate/buzz the fillings out of your teeth! I has OK power now but was a rocket in it's time. Pogo sticks..4" suspension with little dampening. Headlight..hell more like a candle maybe.. Still brings back memories when I ride it but usually for a 30-50 mile spin..that is enuf. The 441 let you know there was a whole lot of shaking going on. Yeah Mark. Got one on the KLX650R dirt model. Pretty easy as the bike has a lighting coil already. Nice to be able to head up the road to the next trail legally. Have DOT knobbies so do not do much pavement. As far as the engine durability goes I believe that the off road use is harder on the engine than the pavement. 30 miles of trails is like 300 miles of pavement as far as wear and tear. IMO of course. :+) Dan P, Graham WA COG 2877, AMA 549865, CMA, UMCI '93 KLX650R Baja d/s kit 'Dirt Boss' '00 KLR650 'Urban Assault Bike' '98 Kaw Concours ZG1000 'Grrr' Yo Ho, Yo Ho, it's a bikers life for me! I don't recall anyone feeling it was getting in the way of performance, i.e., acceleration, speed, and fuel mileage. What I experienced was hard starting. It was very easy to flood and once flooded the gas seemed to accumulate in the canister systems and make things worse. I bought my A12 in February and had to return it to the dealer (they came to pick it up because it wouldn't start). Once I figured out what was going on. The stuff came off. It was closely followed by the sidestand switch and lots of this and that, but soon things started to be added...markie after markie. Also using original sneakers onit. Lots of people have criticized the original Dunlops...some of us liked them pretty well particularly for the ratios you are running. Most people switch to gripsters A24's when the Dunlops are gone or MT21's if the ratio is reversed for off-road. I ran MT21's all the time for the last 4000 miles I had the bike. I thought they were excellent. Has anyone tried the Motoport Canyon Pants? Who is a good Motoport dealer to go through? Gino I have the Motoport Canyon pants. Pros: very durable Cordura material, good quality hardware generous knee and hip pads and lighter kidney padding cargo and key pockets and zipped hip pockets impressive water resistance: I don't remember how they advertised this aspect, but I rode in hard rain for an hour the other day with no soaking through. they probably would soak through eventually, but so far have keep me totally dry in fog/light rain good price Cons: can be hot on warm days, mine are black, but I have gotten-by wearing shorts in 90 degree temps soft material on backs of calfs is getting a little worked by the velcro on my boots no side zips, must remove boots to take on and off, pants bunch-up a bit while pulling-on and you have to pull them through Overall, I like them alot. $135., still look like new and a feeling of being well-protected. I bought them at a new bike dealer, All-American (831-476-8100), don't know if they still stock them or ship. Bought the Kili the other day. I had been planning on a Darien, was about to order it, read a bunch of archive stuff, checked out the Kili, and liked it so much for the price that I laid my money down on the spot.
