After installing the battery, I turned on the key to see if everything would light up. It did, including the headlight on low beam. To save cranking power for the first start of the season, I pulled the connector off the headlight. After the bike started, I drove it out of the shed to the garage so I could check things out. I turned the bike off and re-connected the headlight connector. I turned on the key to start the bike and the goddam low beam was burned out. Well shit. How delicate is this thing anyway! I installed a spare 55/100 watt (H4) bulb I've had lying around for awhile and both hi and low beam now work. My question is: What is the difference between the "H4" 55/60 watt OEM bulb and the "HB2" 55/60 watt second spare that I have? Both appear identical except that the glass capsule of the HB2 bulb is longer than the one on the H4 bulb. The overall length of both lamps is the same as are the mounting tabs on the flange and the connector (P43T configuration) tabs in the base. The HB2 lamp is actually a GE #9003 which is a replacement for the headlights in several of the Honda cars that we have. Judging from its appearance, it would be a perfect replacement for the OEM lamp. BTW, I'm not sure how to properly dispose of the burned out lamp. Is there some ritual and/or ceremony required prior to disposal or can I just flush it down the toilet? It's still looks pretty slippery in there. :-) Thanks. Mike, I went every which way...if I were you I would put the K & N in...get an IDS II...get a dynojet kit (all from Fred)...run it on the middle notch with the 140 jet and 21/2 turns on the pilot... I suspect the "HB" designation may mean that it is a high beam bulb, and late model Hondas have separate bulbs for high and low beams. The high beam bulb may have different projection properties in terms of distance. This is just a guess.
