Just wondering if anyone uses this jacket during summer - I have my Darien for wet and cold, and long distance, but want something for city riding, where you don't get your speed up that high, waiting at lights etc. Can someone tell me what this jacket looks like in the flesh? From the photos, it looks kind of 'dorky' - stiff bits of foam in a stretchy nylon jacket? And could I use it for dual sporting, or would I be better with a body armour setup, or a motocross jacket? In addition; you can dirt your KLR there if you'd like. I believe it is called Hollister Hills State Recreational Park. The nice thing about this campground is, if you don't want to ride your KLR with dirt bikes, you can go up the hill further and ride the 4x4 trails. (At least you used to be able to.) Another area I would look at is just north of you in the Sonoma Valley area. Sears point raceway and excellent wine growing abound in this area. I remember seeing several signs for camping when my wife and I attended the Superbike races there. Also, the coast, just north of you is excellent for aesthetics, riding enjoyment, antique exploration, etc. Living where you do, is a cornucopia of motorcycle enjoyment. Try the state park information center, San Fran tourist bureau, etc...Better yet....just fire the baby up and go find camping areas. That's the way my wife and I do it. Have fun. What I found out was this, THE KLR IS VERY SUCCEPTIPLE TO WHERE AND HOW YOU PLACE YOUR LUGGAGE, especially so in windy encounters. The handling of the KLR is severely affected by luggage placement, especially if you are going to go to any of the larger sizes. I went with the GIVI hard bag system for several reasons, but I hear that there are some hard panniers that are also specifically designed for the KLR. I found that if my GIVI system was fully loaded for the road, I was wanting some lead weights up front. The front end never lifted on me, but the front contact patch felt very light and uncomfortable. I have resigned to figure out to attach weights in an attractive, yet removeable fashion. The GIVI bags are wonderful, the lock, and they come off the bike in a snap, leaving only a frame in place. A frame that can protect the side of the bike as well. The frame isn't very large and my wife says that it does not detract from the bikes overall looks. Whatever you use, make sure you test and test, or have someone else do it for you, cuz the KLR can go from adventure machine to road sail in a heartbeat. Man what a difference! I actually have dampening now! Not to mention springing! I used to ride with my pre-load set at 5, but now I'm down to 3. I used to have NO damping at all. My bike was quite neglected when I got it. I doubt it had any maintenance at all except for oil changes. Now with a Progressive front end and the stock shock, while not quite 748 quality, it handles pretty well. So... question: what kind of service life can expect from a stock shock? How many of you with stock shocks still have decent damping? That was $150 well spent- if you want to get another shock and don't want to shell out the $500+ that an Ohlins or Progressive shock costs, think about a replacement one from Dual Star.
