Wow... I was just browsing through the Dual Sport website (the list has been kind of slow lately, what's up?) and under the chain and sprockets section it said that one could be looking to replace the factory parts at 5 to 6000 miles. I'm at 10K right now and mine still look good. I'm needing another 5K out of them to get me back to the States. Should this be a concern? To be honest I was looking to get a total of 15 to 20K out of them before doing a replacement at Fred's place. Will they get me there? Or am I crazy for thinking they will? For what it's worth I'm very good about cleaning and lubing the chain along with maintaining it's tension. Thanks in advance... My OEM chain and sprockets went about 13,000, and thats before I figured out to use Chain Wax and had it all gunked up with Cal Guard and mother natures own valve grinding compound. I have heard of them being nursed twice that far but dont know how bad they were when they gave up on that fellow. The DID X-Ring seems to be the hot ticket for KLRs if it is indeed about to give it up. Mine now has about 14,000 miles on it and has already worn out one front sprocket. It is still in very good shape. - -Tom '96 KLR 650 Search the KLR650 archives at: http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Apr 1999 23:22:00 -0600 From: "Kurt Simpson" Subject: (klr650) Driveline Racks/Radiator Guard Many of you have heard that Obe Wan has been working the force in Boise. Kurt, I`ve done the Frank Church and Nez Perce National Forest. Snake Riv= er area around Salmon, ID. also. Great scenery and ride, well worth the trip. Good time of the year to go also. Some of the USFS roads are horse trails and really make for great riding, if you got good tires. You know how a lawn mower or your bike begins to run great that instant before you run out of gas? If you have not checked your valves lately, it could be a tight valve, but this would be more obvious after the engine warms up. Others have already talked about intake boots, gas/air mixture screws etc. I would not bet on a too stiff diaphram unless you have access to "enhanced" fuels other than the 10 % ethanol mixes which seem ok. keep us posted and good luck. frank Driveline Racks/Radiator Guard "First Look" at: http://members.tripod.com/ajaxut/Driveline.htm ------------------------------ End of klr650-digest V2 #229 ****************************
