There is this "videocomputersystem" music from a group called "Golden Shower", they made it using only Atari 2600 samples. The music has a lot of that "Pocket Calculator" feeling IMHO. I think Atom Heart is even mentioned in the liner notes. I got the Senor Coconut CD (American issue without "Radioactivity), and I really like it. It's fun to hear so many of my favorite KW tracks re-interpreted in such a creative way, i.e. latin rhythms and instrumentation. My favorites are "Autobahn" with the great accordion beat, "Neon Lights," and "It's More Fun To Compute", which sounds like the score to a film noir from the 1940's (Orson Wells' "Touch Of Evil" comes to mind). But all the tracks are a lot of fun. The only one I was sort of disappointed about was "Man-Machine," I think Senor Coconut's version lost an important element of the original in the transformation, it just doesn't "work" like all the other songs. I bought it at Tower Records in Los Angeles for $11.99. I also noticed a Senor Coconut 12" for "Trans-Europe Express". ---Jason # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? I was always a regular subscriber/contributor to this mailing list, but from April till August I was in South Africa, so I left for a while. But now I'm back!!! So anyway, can you guys tell me what's been happening in the world of Kraftwerk since I was gone (and finding KW in South Africa is like finding good meat in Holland...impossible!). Also, I wish to let you know of the following: At the beginning of the year I did e-mail trades of CD-Rs with 2 people, from whom I STILL haven't received anything (and they definitely got my stuff!): RUNAR from Iceland missinglink@vortex.is and CHARLES WATKINS JR spectre@vnet.net . I hope that me telling the world this will get me my CDs from them, because after sending e-mails I still haven't got a reply.... Anyway, if you are interested in a trade then e-mail me, I will send a list of everything I have. Please note I only have the means to copy CDs, I haven't got the program or cables to copy from LP/MC yet. My main interest is Neu! 1 on CD (I have the LP), otherwise surprise me! mattwerk@hotmail.com http://mattwerk.glow.nl Thank you all! Anyway, I read on the mailing list about a new official version of Showroom Dummies, is this true? I'd love to know what a re-done version would sound like. Personally I wouldn't mind a 'The Mix - 2' from Kraftwerk, with all the great songs that they left off 'The Mix'. Yeah, with the top tracks like The Model, Showroom Dummies, Kometenmelodie, Ohm Sweet Ohm, TDF...well, The Mix 2 must be besides the regular album that will hopefully come out soon, so Ralf und Florian must get their keyboards warmed up to create 2 albums!!! Also, Kraftwerk must obviously have a huge reserve of material in their studio, so why don't they do what other artists do and just release all the old and 'previously unreleased' tracks? I mean, I'd kill for a CD quality version of the old Techno Pop demo, the quality on the bootleg and MP3 isn't very hot... Tata! I wouldn't have known this, but for the fact that he was so pleased with his purchase that he later sent a CD to my brother as an extra thank-you. This CD, which was passed on to me (for lack of interest on my brother's part), contains the prize-winning pieces from a recent (annual) experimental electronic music competition, and, as a bonus, several pieces of from older instances of this competition, around 1980. One of the latter tracks is by Klaus Roeder (so he probably got several of these CDs, like you'd make copies of a newspaper article about yourself) and his picture in the CD booklet certainly matches the buyer of loudspeakers. The picture also matches the Klaus Roeder that was briefly with Kraftwerk, minus long hair. So, bottom line is that he's alive and well, IIRC married with children, has at least dabbled some more in electronic music, and lives in Solingen. Funnily enough, my brother had no idea about the Kraftwerk connection. -gbr # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? After months of planning (well, what else could I do in South Africa without my CD copier?) and days of hard editing work, I've completed the project I so wanted to do, and I want to share it! I have the very rare LP 'Exceller 8' (1975) which was a KW LP with edits of different songs, from Kraftwerk 1/2 to Autobahn. It wasn't just a question of taking all the tracks from the bootleg CD, I had to edit them. I could've copied from the LP, but I haven't got the program to do that. Besides, copying from CD to CD would be better quality...so I edited it to the exact standard of the LP. In doing so I now have the ONLY CD version of Exceller 8 (I think). If anyone's interested then let moe know, I'm a sucker for CD trades :) Only thing is that I can't scan the LP cover, because it's too big for my flatbed scanner. If anybody can scan it, could you please??? Tata for now... In the article, which if I remember right was in Record Collector Magazine, it stated that the original master recording had disappeared from the EMI vaults. According to an interview with Madonna, she commented on bands she saw/heard live. She remembered one band in particular, Kraftwerk in 1981, they "blew her away". I don't know if Madonna is a Kraftwerk fan, and Kraftwerk really had a great live show in 1981 (better than the "present" in my opinion) but they did inpress her, apparently. I'll see if I can find the actual interview for full reference, though I don't usually keep Madonna material. It probably was an interview (recently, last or this year) in "Oor", a Dutch music magazine. Madonna is getting more and more "electronic". It's no more a rip off than any other artist who have been influenced by KW (i.e. most of the Detroit techno pioneers like Juan Atkins, Blake Baxter etc, and even hard beat industrial bands like Front 242.) As for Madonna getting more "electronic" that's surely not a bad thing. At least she's moving with the times and not allowing herself to stagnate like a lot of older bands, who are still recycling their old material. Its an early example of the 'cassette single' format and the cigarette-box style packaging printed to resemble (suprise!) a pocket calculator is rather quirky. "On a similar note, I remember reading a few years back about the original recording of Electric Cafe, B4 Francois Kevorkian rewerked it. The working title was I believe called Techno Pop or Techno Music. In the article, which if I remember right was in Record Collector Magazine, it stated that the original master recording had disappeared from the EMI vaults. Subsequent to that I have seen a few adverts from people offering vast sums of money for it. I have a very rough sounding version of what I believe is the title track called Techno Pop on the end of a live bootleg album. Does anyone have any recent news about it's likely location?"=0D=0DJust because a catalogue = number [EMC3407] was assigned to this 'album' is no evidence that the final masters ever existed -- perhaps that's why the vaults are empty. Anyway, I'm sure R&F own their master recordings, not EMI, which is why there's never been an EMI 'best of' compilation album from the 1975-86 period (I don't count the Mix project), while there have been several such Philips/Vertigo/Polygram albums of their pre1975 work. I work in publishing and here catalogue numbers (ISBNs) are created for book titles months (or even years) before the final manuscript is delivered by the author and production work begins. Cover designs may have been proposed, but again I doubt these are in final form (i.e. printed, cut and glued) as this would only be done once the LP's pressing process got underway. The bootlegged version of Techno Pop is clearly a demo rough mix, beautiful though it is. Well, I just gave a listen to both the American pressing (Elektra 9 3549-2) and the Japanese pressing (TOCP-8974) of the 'Computer World' CD, and neither one of them has the glitch at 7'12" during 'Computer Love". So, it seems it's only the German-language version of the disc which contains the error.
