I have such a hard time picturing Kraftwerk as a wild rock-n-roll party band. I can maybe see a book about thier wild nights of playing Dungeons and Dragons, drinking lots of coffee and the slavish tangles of cables in the studio, but... A testament to the power of thier image-crafting. _______________________________________________________ Eric Oehler / wonko@nulldevice.com / www.nulldevice.com Quadrilateral I was now I warp like a smile # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? It turns out one of America's cell phone service providers, VoiceStream Wireless, actually uses GSM and I could get the thing to work...if Deutsche Telekom gives them enough capital to expand into the rest of the American market from the Pacific Northwest. Any other good ring tones out there that anyone knows of and/or made themselces. I may be going to college in VoiceStream's only area so if I do I want to be well-equipped with Kraftwerk ringtones. By the way, has anyone ever done any electronic music using cell phone sounds? If Kraftwerk releases a new album in keeping with their tradition of concepts, it should definitely be focused around wireless communication. "CIty of Cell Phones" or something to that effect... After "Sterilization" (Dataphysix, 1997) was included on several mix albums, DJ Hell contacted Dopplereffekt and released the "Gesamtkunstwerk" compilation through his International Deejay Gigolo label in 1999. Their few maxis, a kind of chipped softcore version of Kraftwerk, is not only a brilliant moment in the evolution of the Detroit electro (the techno bass), but also they suit as a glove to the sleazy philosophy of IDG. "Cellular Phone", critical view of the technology. "Plasiphilia 2", cult to the fetishism and its historic lyric "I wanna make love to a mannequin". The lo-fi materilization of some electro pieces that are drum, bass and robotic melody, the bargain science-fiction sound ("Voice Activated").
