(catalog CLP 0119-2) i thought it was out on import, so i didnt bother to share my excitement with the list. (i thought it was old news.) frankly, the record is dope as hell. wolfgang really did it. very techno lounge, alot of effects that you hear in jungle music (time streching, crazy filtering). the vocals are cool and funny. there are MANY references to the special K sounds of the past, but nothing like the rip off sound of elektric music. the first song (time pie) has the garbled computer voices like the end of computer world... "guiding ray" reminds me of the original "autobahn", but more insane. its more about driving out into space than on a highway in germany. there is also some crazy updated computer voices deep in the mix. mouse on mars definitly left there mark on this record! overall, i think everyone will be very happy listening to this cd, everyone that is exept two robotic germans known as the boys! this record is not the new kraftwerk, but if you love the vibe, it breaks the tension of our never ending wait. regarding the crappyness of www.kraftwerk.com- get out!! thats one of the coolest, freshest sites around. mabey you just dont know cool shit when you see it. respect to all the headz darren all terrain sound nyc. http://www.tuna.net/resin # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Sep 97 04:27:24 +0200 From: "Arnaud de Bonald" Subject: (kw) KW GIG Hi, Did KW made Gigs in 1986-87? I thought that all UK residents will be interested to note that this Sunday (September 7th) at 18.30 on Channel 5 will be a review of Tribal Gathering. The trailer for the show didn't seem to play any KW, but who knows, I will record it anyway for anyone who may not have access to this channel. Well not much seems to have happened in the nearly three weeks I have been absent. Apart from the excitement in Europe over the Karlsrue gig I can't say that there has been too much interesting reading to come back to. I hope this list is not starting to get exhausted! He stated taht he did't like music videos because they destroyed one's imagination of a song, but he was very proud when they produced their first videos. The 50-minute show consisted of 11 videos interrupted by short interview sequences in which he explained why he had chosen that video. Here's his choice (with short summaries of his comments, maybe someone transscribed them totally?): - - Kraftwerk: Die Roboter - - Herbie Hanckock: Rockit (A video that pushed a song not being an hit for itself.) - - Bjoerk: Human Behaviour (As a perfect example of expressing the song's message via visual media.) - - The Beatles: Free as a bird (For he'd always attracted by voices, the Beatle's ones especially.) - - Julian Lennon: Salt water (He likes nature very much and the idea of nature recapturing the human world attracts him.) - - The Bionaut: Vitagraph - - Yamo: Stereomatic - - Elektric Music: Crosstalk - - Sheryl Crow: All I wanna do (A video that did fit perfectly to his intuitive imagination after having heard the song for the first time.) - - Smoke City - Under water love - - Mouse on Mars -Bib Later that day Viva-2 aired the Comet-awards where Kraftwerk won the "Special price of the jury of the Branchen-award". Surely a price that nobody wants to win (another winner for example were Levis for best ad campaign,... All that self-celebrating stuff of an industry that lost innocence many years ago). So it wasn't a surprise that none of the Kraftwerk members was there, but only a guy from EMI who said: "I'm not surprised that Kraftwerk won this award, because many of today's groups name them as a source of inspiration. I'm sorry that noone from Kraftwerk can be here today, I'll hand this award over to them, but not before they delivered their new album. We all hope this will be soon, ." Does this statement show the EMI is tired announcing and cancelling Kraftwerk Albums or was that just a (not very clever) trick to speed up things? If it wasn't a lie (and EMI plans a "surprise release"), waht would be the earliest date an album coud be released, if they delivered their stuff *today*? Cassettes could be out in a much shorter time, and vinyl equally so. (test pressings of vinyl arevery rare these days due to a lack of demand). Presumably, Kraftwerk could also finalise cover art in that 6 week period with enough time to enable proofs and sleeve to be completed. According to some sources EMI have heard unfinished mixes of 3 tracks in the UK, but are not worried about a release date. The band are modest sellers even with new material, and I expect EMI will not push Ralf, Florian, Fritz and Henning to produce new material. Lackiing a finiacial imperative K-w may simply re-re-re-remix material and never release it until Doomsday.. Confusion over the new track.... well, If K-w had produced nothing between 1975-1986 imagine the shock with the difference in styles between Radioactivity and Electric Cafe. We may very well experience a similar leap in styles with the new stuff. I guess the album would ahve an Internet/ Communication Theme.. Finally, the Terminator thread... the day Skynet became self-aware due to Terminator mythology was 7:14am GMT on August 29th 1997... either it was all Hokum or Arnie did his job well and eliminated all traces of The Terminartors in early 90's USa. Therefore, we will never know if the film is true or not. Robotronik....
