AND I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE MY EYES !!! (of course, as it was private mail, i won't tell who that was). OK, people : let me tell you a couple of stories (yes, daddy-jbv is back). STORY 1 : In nov / dec 91, KW did a few gigs in Europe. Unfortunately, I missed the show in Paris (I had to go to some funerals on that day). But I managed to see them in Zurich a couple of days later. So I took a day off, flew to Zurich, and when I got there I tried to find a ticket. Of course, it was sold out long time ago. So the only thing I could do was to buy a ticket on the black market. And shortly before the show, in the cold night, just in front the concert hall, I found a guy (he was fat and had a beard - is he on this list ?) who sold me a ticket at THREE TIMES THE REGULAR PRICE. I know : some of you will think "if this guy can fly to Zurich just to see a concert, he can afford to pay that much for a ticket". Sure, but this is not the problem. I want you to know that I find this kind of behaviour really DISGUSTING. And once again, I'm really AMAZED to see that some of you could think I was serious when I publically offered that kind of deal !!!!!! Actually, if you come across such disgusting people in Karlsruhe, what I'm expecting you to do is to smash his f*cking face !!! But yes, I know that some people want to see KW live at any cost... But please, think for one second : did you see the piece of crap they published on their Web site ? Do you really want to spend 50 DM x3 = 150 DM to see a bunch of old has beens showing up in green-salad suits and ridiculous glasses (they don't even have sexy legs) pretending they are the godfathers of techno ? Why don't you take your girlfriend to a nice restaurant instead, and make plans for the future with her ? STORY 2 : I actually ordered 4 tickets to Linz and 4 to Karlruhe. I'm planing to take a friend from Paris who is a big fan of them for years but who never saw them live. On the way, we will pick up another friend of mine who lives in Switzerland and who loves them since 1973 but still never had a chance to see them live. And last but not least : my new girlfriend (who is 24 and from Minsk, Belarus) is a big fan of Depeche Mode. A couple of months ago, as she was here, I played for her a few KW albums (especially THE MIX) and explained that these guys started everything 23 years ago, that they invented techno-pop, techno, hot water and all kind of sweet things, and that Depeche Mode or gary Numan were only f*cking imitators / followers. But she kept saying that THE MIX had nothing to do with techno, that R&F were only a couple of has beens trying to keep in tune at any cost with what's going on these days, etc. etc. So I decided to take her to live gigs to make her education. I just managed to get her a visa to Schengen (not so easy these days) and I'm presently trying to get her a short stay visa to Austria. So We should pick her up at Frankfurt airport on our way to Linz (unless she manages to fly to Paris before that). All this stuff to tell you that there's no ticket available on my side and that i'm very sorry to disapoint you guys... But as you can see, this is really Trans Europe Express... jbv # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Sep 1997 23:51:54 +0100 From: jbv Subject: Re: Re : (kw) Kraftwerk and hotdogs... My name is Marcus Wagstaff and I am a NEW member of this mailing list! I look forward to some good discussions. I am happily married to a wonderful woman named Rebekah. We have three young sons and we live in Tempe, AZ, USA. We are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I went on a mission to Ohio. My sister, Jessica, is on this list too, so if any of you DO get her a ticket to Germany, treat her in a gentlemanly manner or I will have to set you straight. ;~) My first exposure to Kraftwerk was a short animation video I saw on HBO back around 1981. It was an animation of an alien running around and flying through space. The soundtrack was awesome. I read the credits at the end and found out the soundtrack was a song called "Autobahn" by some band called Kraftwerk. I went right out and got the LP. The rest is history. Computerworld is my number one fave, followed by The Mix and then Electric Cafe. The Man Machine is very good also. I got Pascal Bussey's book for Christmas last year from my brother. I found Pascal's representation of Ralf and Florian interesting and enjoyable. To me, their music is futuristic, antiseptic, and driving. I used to listen to tapes of their music as I delivered papers early in the morning. Every time I hear Computerworld, I remember pedalling through the November chill, pre-dawn dark in the suburbs of Tempe, tossing the Arizona Republic on peoples' doorsteps. I think R&F are indeed coming out with one more release eventually. It will be a "MIX 2" type of thing with one or two new tracks. The thing that's gotten in their way of being more prolific is their quest for the "perfect pop song for all the tribes of the global village". The way I see it, writing the perfect song is impossible. Music creates moods and inspires us in positive and negative ways. Music is the language of our creative spirit. Since we are all unique, there can be no song that touches us equally. (Look at the spectrum of music: classical, electronic, country, rock and roll, polka, punk, industrial, ska, religious, tribal, etc. etc. etc.) That's the beauty about us humans; we all share similarities, but we are all unique individuals. The PERFECT song does not exist, at least not in this dimension. So I think these guys have written lots of material that they don't deem worthy of releasing. Just read about Electric Cafe and Bartos' frustration at the slow pace - five years of work for 43 minutes of music - - in Bussey's book. These must have been lots of material that was considered, worked on, then set aside as not worthy of the Kraftwerk mark. If Ralf and Florian do "scan the audience with cool eyes" looking for reactions for their material, they are very sensitive to what others think of their musical expression. Anyway, I am glad to be on the list. Here are a couple questions you might be able to answer for me: 1. Who are the two other guys with Ralf and Florian in the Luton video clip? 2. Does anyone know where I could get a copy of House Call? 3. Are these concert tapes mentioned worth getting ahold of? All I have in my collection is Capitol vinyl, the Mix CD and the Robots CD single. I was watching the Kulturzeit-telecast yesterday (yes, Oliver, I taped it, but I think I can=B4t make a copy as I have only one VCR), have to sa= y something about that: There was an interview with a music-journalist, forgot the name. He stated, that since Kraftwerk became famous, it couldn=B4t get worse anymore. So, don=B4t misunderstand me: I=B4m not offended because he does= n=B4t like the same music like me, but what bothers me is: How can a man like this really earn money with saying something stupid? He stated, that as it is so easy to buy all the equipment in a shop, it would be very easy to make it in the music-biz. Something like: If you don=B4t play a guitar or a violin, you are no musician. Because that=B4s = no art. You only go to the shop, buy a synthi and the rest will follow. So I wonder why he is still a music-journalist and no famous musician. I don=B4t like these guys telling me that playing a synthesizer is not making music. I don=B4t play any instrument ( played a violin when i was six years old), but I know that this is wrong and he did understand nothing at all. It doesn=B4t matter if it=B4s electronic or strings, old or innovative, independent or main-stream. The only thing that count=B4s is a nice melody to make you happy (or sad, if you like that more). The >sounds Kraftwerk created were, as always, just right. Anything played once every 6 years at a high volume and in front of a crowd of devoted fans will ALWAYS sound right. In a sense, that's why musicians and mixing engineers always test their mixes on cheap equipment (Auratones, etc.). If it sounds great at a low volume on such cheap gear, it will sound even better on high quality gear and at a high volume. Things work like that, and not the other way around. That's why I think the 30 sec QT movie is a good test. And IMHO, it sounds like crap. no hard feelings, jbv # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Sep 1997 20:38:19 +0100 From: jbv Subject: Re: (kw) Karlsruhe gig - list update. I partially agree, but would like to rephrase it like this:=20 It doesn=B4t matter if it=B4s electronic or strings, old or innovative, independent or main-stream. If you like it, you like it. If you don't, you don't. And one's opinion can change. This statement may fit for the music of the 18. century, but it is hardly valid for the 20. century. I always found it ironic and self-contradicting that the so-called musical innovators Kraftwerk, who like to critizise classical music as "anachronistic museum pieces", have an extremely classical approach to melody. :-) Klaus Zaepke # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Sep 1997 03:35:49 +0000 From: lbo@jolly.iol.it Subject: Re: (kw) He is a robot! > >He is a robot! > > > > > >http://www.honda.co.jp/tech/other/robot.html hello .jp fellows and thanks for the link! could you give a translation of the text, if you think is relevant, because I only see a lot of strange characters (not that I can read ideograms anyway... :-) ). - ---------------- lbo@iol.it http://users.iol.it/lbo # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Sep 1997 03:35:50 +0000 From: lbo@jolly.iol.it Subject: Re: (kw) The Return of Knee Man Machine!! > Lets hope that KW don't decide to play France, look waht the press > get upto over there trying to snap shot celebrities!!! yes, and hear what their french fans say... :-) - ---------------- lbo@iol.it http://users.iol.it/lbo # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Sep 1997 03:35:53 +0000 From: lbo@jolly.iol.it Subject: Re: (kw) Karlsruhe gig - list update. > Who will pay for the drinks ?
