LA Duesseldorf was the band formed by Klaus Dinger (drummer on the first Kraftwerk album) after he left Neu!. They put out three albums before disbanding. Recently Dinger has revived the franchise with a new album and the original three albums are all now available on CD. The sound is sorta in a Kraftwerk vein, but much simplier, sorta "bubblegum Krautrock". I suggest listening before purchasing. Assuming you're in the US, you can still get "Autobahn" as an import from Germany for about $20 USD. I've seen all of the others (including "Tone Float") as bootlegs for about the same price, on the Germanofon label. They're hard to find, but are around. Right, there is a quite bad recorded version (somehow damped as if recorded from a heavily used tape) on the sampler you mentioned. It was released by the german city / lifestyle magazine "Prinz" and as far as I remember it also includes tracks of George Kranz (Trommeltanz / Din daa daa), Snap (The Power), Unknown Cases (Masimba bele), Georgie Red (If I say stop then stop), Ledernacken (Amok) and and and... They are all german dancefloor productions and most of them are ugly (even the Toten Hosen are there with "Hip hop bommi bop"...). In the liner notes someone (probably Michael Reinboth, but I only suggest) is very proud about being the first label that released a sampler containing a Kraftwerk track. Who knows what tricks they played to get that lo-fi version from Kling-Klang. - -bi Nofrontiere Design GmbH Zinckgasse 20-22 A-1150 Vienna Austria t +43-1-9855750 f +43-1-98557503 tobi@nofrontiere.com http://www.nofrontiere.com # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Oct 1997 11:16:20 +0100 From: Thomas Helvard Subject: (kw) Fleamarkets Fleamarkets can be a good place to find old Kraftwerk-records. Yes, it was released on a German CD compilation called "DJ's Best", but as far as being released on any actual Kraftwerk album goes, it was not. How good is this piece? Well, I suppose that's largely subject to opinion, but I for one love the song very much and it's safe to say that most KW fans do as well. To the best of my knowledge, Kraftwerk has been performing this song live in practically every live gig since '90, and two music videos had been made for it after the song first came out in '83. "Ultra Rare Trax" is simply a bootleg remix compilation on CD. What this means is that there are NO authentic Kraftwerk songs on this release, but rather a collection of various DJ remixes made using actual Kraftwerk songs. The track listing is as follows: Computer World (klick mix) Pocket Calculator (east meets west mix) Music - Non Stop (cut up mix) Trans Europe Express (t.e.e. mix) The Robots (program mix) Autobahn (peoples car mix) Europe Endless (open border mix) The Man-Machine (space mix) The Model (catbonic mix) Neon Lights (ton-up mix) Showroom Dummies (m.c.m.g. mix) I for one have never been a huge fan of DJ remixes, and all I've really heard about 'Ultra Rare Trax' is that it has excellent sound quality yet boring remixes. - -- Scott nebulous@erols.com "Wir sind Schaufensterpuppen..." # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Oct 1997 10:21:14 EDT From: tweibrecht@juno.com (thomas m weibrecht) Subject: Re: (kw) Florian im Schule On Mon, 06 Oct 1997 23:46:38 +0100 jbv writes: > > >Let's hope he will not become as pretentious and boring as Eno... pretentious maybe, but never boring.... tom w np: eno - the drop # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Oct 1997 17:10:46 +0000 From: "Craig Land" Subject: (kw) It's Here at last...! That's like when Paramount tried to close down all the STAR TREK WebSites. -(Copyrighted images & sounds, etc)- They did not succeed. Fellow TREKKIES raised a fuss and proved that they were not out to make any profit, and the Fans prevailed. The same goes for MusiK. Besides, considering the fact that Jarre played a special one-time performance on a radio broadcast -(10-15 years ago?)- and invited home listeners to record it freely, I seriously doubt that he personally would be upset about Fans sharing his lovely tunes. -(He then had one album of this performance pressed on swirly-colored vinyl and it was auctioned off- for charity, I think.)- As for Ralf & Florian, if they told us to knock it off, well, I'd cry a lot, but, I'd respect their wishes. -(*HeeHee* Just wait til I get my HomePage set up. No sounds, but, there'll be some silly drawings! I hope R&F have a sense of humor.)- Anyway, let's not panic.... yet. I have just joined the internet for the purpose of joining this Krasftwerk list which a good friend told me about. Unfortunately I am not very good at typing. This is the first message I've sent to this list and one of the first electrnic mails I have ever sent. I am a Kraftwerk fan for 16 years. Computer World did my heads in when it first came out. After this I bought Autoobahn, The Man Machine, Trans Europe Express, and later Electric Cafe and The Mix when they came out. This year I wanted to see Tribal Gathering but UI am a bit too old for this. I was told new material was played from the new album. Maybe list members kmnow when the new album is out?? Hi everybody ! I'm back on the list. Not that I think that any of you remember me (how could you? I never posted anything the last time). Soon after I joind the list the guy who's in charge of the mailing system where I work = made a mess off everything and my adress ceased to exist for some months so = I was probably automaticly cut from the list. Anyway, now I back = (finally, phew) and my name is Eric and at this moment I live in Lund (Sweden = that is). After some moving around in Sweden and abroad I've ended up here with wife and family. By the way, it's a goooood place to end up in. My first contact with Kraftwerk was when I was in the army (at that = time you had to make time in the army in Sweden, if you didn=B4t want to, = you got thrown in jail. A true story). One morning I awoke to the tunes of Robots (couldn't think off a better place to hear it in) and I was = stuck for life?. By some bizare reason I can't get access to the Kraftwerk FAQ (The company I work for seems to prevent it) so maybe you nice persons on = the list could help me with some questions. What about Mobile Homes and Karl Bartos. What about Electronic and Karl Bartos. What does YAMO sound like. What is Mouse on Mars and how is it related to Kraftwerk. What's the latest about any new KW album (by the way, I listend to the clip from TG, the new song, and I really liked it). Are there any new members in KW or are they just two and firends. The only Bootie I have is called Machine (and I think it's quite good too). Any tips on any other booties that are worth chasing. (with good soundquality that is). If this already has been debated to the bone on the list, please don't hesitate to mail me in person.=20 Even though I have a fairly big record collection (to big if you ask my wife, so I don't) There are not that many bands that I find worth to have all the albums off but offcourse Kraftwerk (don't have all of them though... sniff, am missing the early ones). Other bands that allways have followed me in life is Yello, Joy Division, New Order, Visage, The Cure, Ultravox, Talking Heads, Prince and The Police. Nowadays I mostly buy techno, hip-hop, metall, dub, world music (don't you just hate that silly label, but you know what I mean) and if possible a combination of all of it. And not to forget, classical music, all genres. It's nice to be back. On the Bootleg LP's of Kraftwerk 1, 2 and R&F: You can tell it's a Bootleg if the Matrix number in the run-out groove does not correspond with the cataloge number on the sleeve. On original Philips pressings, it should always start with: 6305- for the german copies. (6305 058, -117 and -197, respectively). As the sleeve reproduction oft the bootlegs is excellent and the sound quality o.k., they are not such a rip-off. Buying the Germanofon CD's is certainly more sensible, though.
