Actually, a small number were actually burned and prepared for shipping, but a last-minute order from the company had them all destroyed. By a stroke of fate, however, about 100 copies were accidentally shipped out to a US distributor and, in turn, 1 or 2 copies each ended up at a smattering of US music stores. A special task force of former Stasi agents was hired by Ralf and Florian and dispatched to the US to recover all of the discs, regardless of where they were. While all of the original 100 discs have supposedly been recovered and destroyed, enterprising collectors did, of course, make copies of the discs, and clandestine copies have been circulating for months now. Ralf and Florian have been maintaining their Stasi team at great expense in the US, tracking down the guilty, although bootlegs still continue to turn up from time to time. S. 2: Fortunato & Montresor: "Imagine" > More info about the "Imagine" single is available at > http://www.elektrolux.com/releas16-20.htm#e10000 I have now seen this single. I didn't notice a sample from "Pocket Calculator", but one of the mixes ("The Operator") contains the first line of the "Pocket Calculator" lyrics ("I'm the operator with my pocket calculator"). BTW: The track was co-written by Elektric Music member Ralf Beck, and Yamo-collaborateuse Jedra Dayl is credited for lyrics and vocals. Warner Bros. and SME (Sony) are interested in releasing the film's soundtrack album, and a search is going on for a distributor--Miramax/Disney, Grammercy/PolyGram and October/Universal are said to be interested in that department while the film's near completion. There was talk of Numan and Foxx a few weeks ago, and some members stated their keen interest (Craig Land I think was one of them). On Saturday evening I saw a John Foxx gig at the LA2 in London - 'twas an excellent gig, many old songs including some of my faves from the early Ultravox era (Hiroshima mon Amour, Quiet Men, Dislocation) and 80's solo stuff (Underpass, Endlessly, 20th Century to name but a few). There was just John Foxx and another guy onstage, using only keyboards, sequencers and drum machines. The old stuff sounded excellent, and brought many happy memories flooding back. If only he'd played "My Sex"... After John Foxx, I bombed up to North London to catch Komputer, who were playing at a Krautrock club at The Garage. They too were excellent, and played a track I've not heard before, "Bill Gates", which is v.much like the "Man Machine" KW played at Tribal, with the synthesized "Man" and "Machine" replaced by "Bill" "Gates". Marvelous stuff! Now I don't feel so bad about missing the forthcoming KW gigs... If anyone on the list gets the chance to see either of these acts perform, I'd strongly recommend you take it. Further info may be obtained from the "Extreme Voice" website (Foxx) or the Mute Records website (Komputer). I'm sorry but I don't have the URLs for these. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Oct 1997 10:18:17 +0100 From: DHOLTON@derwent.co.uk Subject: (kw) Did anyone see Komputer live upstairs at the Garage on Saturday night? If so what were they like?Would love to have gone if it were not for more pressing details like no babysitter and important football matches.Nice to see Germany being taken to the wire - I've got an inkling that England might win the World Cup! Recently one of the cable stations here played a movie about the inventor of the Theremin, the first electric musical instrument. You may know it for the spooky sounds it was used to produce for low-grade horror and science fiction movies. Anyway, the movie was quite interesting and enlightening. As I recall the title was actually "Theremin". It had interviews with Moog, some of the remaining professional Theremin players and various other related musicians. Anyone else see it? What a fascinating instrument. /* Soleil "Ra" Lapierre www.cuug.ab.ca/~lapierrs * * "The human race believes in not taking its problems seriously * enough to solve them." - Celia Green */ # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Oct 1997 22:17:50 +0900 From: hiroshi@pobox.com (Hiroshi MURATA) Subject: Re: (kw) 'yamo' comes to Japan!
