People who like "The Telephone Call" might want to give a listen to "Telefone 529" which I believe is by Musicology and might be on one of the Artificial Intelligence compilation albums. It doesn't sample KW at all or even sound much like KW, yet I consider it "the other Telephone Call". It's the same _kind_ of song. Very similar and yet very different. Since I don't have it or know anybody= > who has, my question is, is it worth bying or would you recomend an > other book/books? > = IMHO, this book is OK for KW beginners. Most of the info is accurate, I think, because Bussy "borrowed" a lot from past interviews of R&F in various mags (especially french) and managed to interview several key people (Schult, Alessandrini, Schmidt, etc.) However, if you've been into KW for a long time, you won't learn much. The only info which might not be 100% accurate are the personal info about R&F. I also had the feeling that Bussy could have made much better on some points, like the musical relationship between KW and the repetitive NY school, how they've been influenced by Gilbert & George, the techno- disco Moroder period, etc. But the problem is that Bussy has always been deep into underground stuff (he used to write in the music zine ATEM in the late 70s) and when he avoids the above mentionned topics, he just shows his ignorance and/or lack of interest. Besides, I don't see any other books specifically on KW (except for the translations I post from time to time ;-) ). There's a couple of books on german rock with parts about KW (I think) like the one by Julian Cope. Hope this helps. jbv # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info kraftwerk" in the message. # Postings must go to kraftwerk@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Oct 1997 09:04:22 +0200 From: robert.k@daltekvision.se (Robert Krenn) Subject: Re: (kw) David Holmes samples "The Telephone Call" on new album Scott M. I don't know how trustworthy this information is - but at least a unattended VCR could join in the broadcast. OK, I've read several times in this list that the choir sound on 'Radioactivity' was provided by a Vako Orchestron. However, according to The "Long-Lost Cousins" section ( http://www.pilot.com/optigan/cousins.html ) of the "Optiganally Yours" homepage:- > The Orchestron was originally developed by Opsonar around the time that the > Optigan was on its death bed. The idea was to adapt the Optigan's technology > into a more "professional" quality instrument which could compete with the > Mellotron. His > company, Vako, > produced the Orchestron in a variety of models for a couple years >starting in > about 1976 until it > too kicked the bucket. Wasn't this a year after the 'Radio-Activity' album was released? So wouldn't it have been an Optigan ( http://www.pilot.com/optigan/ ) that was used, not an Orchestron?
