However, after calling the employees at Babylon and at Barrymore's, LX & Juno will not be performing at either place tonight. Does anyone know if they will be playing in Ottawa tonight? If so, where & when? Any help is appreciated... I normally wouldn't have anything to say about this, but my girlfriend's mom recently got picked for a televised reading with George Anderson (that guy through whom your dearly departed loved ones can communicate with you). She was impressed, and reported no suspicious activities. One could argue that she's in on the hoax, I guess, but hey ... it's mom! =) >My question is this: if psychics exist, then why aren't these >assholes hitting the lottery every week?!? The subject of most psychic readings is another person, not future events. If you agree that free will exists, then you will have to agree that one can only predict future tendencies and not specific outcomes. Some so-called "clairvoyants" do have amazing track records with predicting sporting events, etc. But again, for anyone who seriously possesses such abilities, winning the lottery would not really be "where it's at". >Basically, 1.) he makes generalizations until he gets a positive >reaction (and it is statistically unlikely NOT to happen), and 2.) >after the reaction, he lets the person he's "reading" fill in the >blanks. > >This is why all those 900 number "psychic hotlines" are such >big business. Maybe I'll go into that trade, and make a few >million.... ;-) This is a point well taken. This happens all the time, and with a little practice and charisma anyone could doubtless go into the business for themselves. But consider: If you tell me a load of stuff, and I get a lot out of it and improve my life, and it turns out that what you told me was utter nonsense that you just made up, have you really done me a disservice? My point is that real psychics exist, and so do charlatans. Good plumbers exist, and so do incompetents. A genuine inter-dimensional phenomenon exists, and so does red herring UFO mythology. Diamond exists, and so does cubic zirconium. It's up to the individual to do their homework and decide what's true for them. >GAULLIBLE (did I spell that right?) Yes! I went to see LX and Juno Reactor (mostly for LX) at The Cage, a usually Gothic scene, small club in Washington, DC. LX came on about 10pm with a very rough start. I thought he was just getting warmed up and decided not to judge too harshly. This was a very small club and not very many people were there, so it was more of a treat because it seemed LX was putting on a personal show for his fans. He played 6 tracks from the 14 track cydonia. How do I know this? Well, a friend walked up to LX when Juno was on and asked if he had time to smoke, with that LX led 5 of us to his tour bus, locked the door, and we sat and chilled with him. He was extremely chit chatty and extremely down to earth. My boyfriend's dream literally came true that night. He passed on a cd of his music onto the person responsable for getting him into music and in turn LX gave him the 14 track cydonia. It all felt like a dream to me to be there...very surreal. LX said the sound check person used their own needles, so when he went on, it was all wrong. He also said he was suppose to do the set with Juno, but the drum by his tables made the needles bounce too much, so that was scratched. I loved some of his comments like "I'm just a DJ" and "It's all about the music." He was very humble and couldn't understand why some people acted like he was a pop star or something of the like. He was definitely tired that night and couldn't wait to get back home to his girlfriend. Juno did an excellent show, and never having seen them before, I was very impressed. LX came on again at about 12:30 (I think...my head was still on cloud 9) and tired to play a set to an empty club (almost empty except for a handful of us) while they began breaking down the stage. Overall, it was a pleasure to meet paterson and of course that was the highlight of the evening. It didn't matter that he had a rough first set, because we had the opportunity to find out from him directly why it was so rough. For those people who go to see him, understand that the man is incredible, and there is always a behind the scene reason for why sometimes an incredibly skilled person doesn't pull a show over very well. That's what I walked away with.
