Subject: (orb) Badorb's Business Model Just went through the digest that I got today and read Garphoo's message. WHAT A BURN! I understand that it is nice and convenient for all the CD folks to get their copies. However, this whole mess with making claims to limited copies all took a turn for the worse when the first three Bobs were re-pressed. As a fan who has been prepared to buy two copies at a time and had been ready to commit close to £150.00 a year from my salary to a great concept, I think that it is irresponsible, as a business, to promise one thing and deliver something else. I am a serious record collector and I cannot deny that I question the value of these 12" vinyls I have so carefully ammassed. Unlike some music communities (take punk for example), I am in complete support of these guys making a living and breaking more ground in their careers. I do not feel I should sense any "ownership" over such a tight music community, as many fans do. But dammit - it's outright wrong to mislead a consumer. Pressing CD's? I've already burned my backups in WAV and mp3 and don't even need to play the vinyls anymore (at a better bitrate than even BadOrb is providing!). I think it's a farce and naïve to think that you can change your business model on the fly and think that your market will just go with it. I may as well start searching for the songs on any one of the many search engines out there. After all - what's limited about all this these days? I hope that the least they could do is ditch the Orbthenticity bull. Keep the first run of these things limited by at least taking those out. At least some of us will still feel we got our money's worth for being first in line. - ------------------------------------ m a r t l e p p i k - floor115 - ------------------------------------ - -- - --------------------- m a r t l e p p i k __________________________________________________________________ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. First post on the list, hello all, this is Peter from Mighty Manchester UK. I'll try to catch up with the list and I promise I won't ask any silly silly silly question. I'm a big fan of Kraftwerk since 1986. Big fan of Klf and Orb too. I'm a regular on 808state.com and there you can find some info about me. What else? I have a label, I'm a producer and I have a good record collection... very good I think, as I've been DJing from 1990 till 1998. I still spin some music whenever people ask me. I think that's all. It's nice to be here.
