There are 2 bedroom condos in Coronado for $300 a night-- Coronado is just amazing, really tropical and, well, upscale, thus the price. I also looked up a few condos in Oceanside (about 35 minutes from San Diego)-- they look cheaper, close to the beach/on the beach, and here are the links in case you'd like to have a look: http://vrbo.com/vrbo/937.htm http://www.oceanvacation.com/rentalav.htm They're both about $1500 a week for a 2 bedroom condo unit. One of the other areas I'd look into is Solana Beach. It's only about 20 minutes north of San Diego's Downtown (about halfway between SD and Oceanside). It's probably comparable to Oceanside pricing but also a bit nicer area with nicer beaches. I'd agree that the SD area is probably more suited for kids as well. From anyone of the locations we've spoken of we'll have great access to the Outlets in Carlsbad (Gap, Banana Republic, The North Face, Vans, Polo, etc.), Lego Land ( a terrific amusement park for kids), The SD Zoo, Sea World, terrific thrift store and junk store shopping along PCH between SD and Oceanside, and of course the Beach. Let us (Christian and Linda) know if anyone needs us to check anything out down here as a sort of preview of conditions.
