With the help of a friend, I decided to define my eclectic collection of cards this way.... If it's flat (sort of) and square (sort of) and cardboard (sort of), then it's a card! I took to this definition, gladly, since I tend to enjoy my oddball cards the best! A friend of mine (hi Chip) tried to convert me to phone cards along time ago, but I resisted. Another friend out and out NAGGED me (Hi JMH) and I resisted. In fact, when I DID start collecting them, I was embarrassed to admit it to him...;) Phone cards LOOK like trading cards, except for rounded tips (gaming cards are rounded) and they are pretty glossy (but then the UV coating on some SkyBox cards makes them shinny!). They are a wee bit smaller then trading cards (but as we welcome Rittenhouse Archives into the collecting family, we gotta expand that definition anyway) One big issue that people have with phone cards is your paying for phone time you aren't using. (like that stopped us from buying Trek lottery tickets :snicker:) Raise your hands if you bought a toy for the card, a video for the card.....shall I go on...;) One other issue is the cards have images on front, but no real text or images on back like our trading cards do..can't argue this one too much, it doesn't bother me though. I guess I'm just easy...;) What's cool about phone cards?? Many of the images on phone cards are new and unique and the colors are vivid. What I REALLY like about phone cards is that many countries have phone cards. I have cards from Russia, Chili, Portugal and on and on, it's a total kick. Countries can't make trading cards easily, but they seem to be able to pull over phone cards and the hunt for them worldwide has been a blast. For the most part, there are no inserts to chase (a few binder only phone cards and such things) Phone cards are really big in the UK, William Shatner has ownership (or did) in Future Call to bring phone cards to the US, but it didn't seem to catch on over here very well. ATT does them in conjunction with Future Call now and has released some sets. Check out the phone card section..consider giving some phone cards a looksie. For a limited time (based on availability), you can email me and I will send you a free phone card for a SASE. http://www.jklm.net/atn/phonecards.htm Lynne Lynne Stewart http://www.jklm.net/index.html KLM Enterprises, Inc. 2805 Oakcliff Ct Johnson City, TN 37601 Home of the AMOK TIMES NEWSLETTER-Info on Star Trek Cards KLM CARDS-Trek cards and stuff for sale! I found the above website interesting and a good point of reference. However, from the info on the website, it seems that there are a few cards which he does not have. And probably most everyone else who has been getting these from the start (mid-1997) is missing also. Please read on. In early January 2000, I received a shipment of corrected cards. Atlas Editions is replacing certain cards that contained mistakes originally. Depending upon where you are in the delivery program, you may or may not have received this shipment. I really don't know how there are delivering the replacements. Anyway, among these 28 replacement cards was a ST II-The Wrath of Khan film synopsis card. [This card *IS* listed on the above website, so he must have received the replacement package also.] Then as I was replacing the cards, I realized that I had never received the original three Wrath of Khan cards. How could I replace a card if I never got it in the first place? I noticed that in the corner where the card number is located, there was a little sticker placed over the number printed on the card itself. I could see the printed number underneath, and it was 5199-02-04. This made me think that I had somehow missed receiving these three film synopsis cards, since I had already received the -02- package of cards. So, I emailed Atlas through their website: www.atlascs.com I inquired about the missing cards and asked them to please send me the three Wrath of Khan film synopsis cards, which I seem to have not received. Then, a few weeks later, I received a package from them containing the first three ten packs (-01-, -02- and -03-), and among the -02- group were the ST II-TWOK film synopsis cards, *plus* two other cards which were new to me. All the other 25 cards were the same as I already had. It seems they changed the cards included in the -02- package to now include five different cards. Here are the five cards I received back in 1997 from the original -02- package: 5205-02-02 Character - Nomad 5205-02-04 Character - Minuet 5205-02-05 Culture - Vulcan Mind Meld 5205-02-06 Race - The Ferengi (TNG) 5205-02-10 Technology - Medical Tricorder Here are the five "new" cards I just received: 5199-02-02 Crew - Lt. Ilia 5199-02-04 Film Synopsis - Star Trek II:The Wrath of Khan 5199-02-05 Film Synopsis - Star Trek II:The Wrath of Khan 5199-02-06 Film Synopsis - Star Trek II:The Wrath of Khan 5199-02-10 Character - The Borg Queen As you can see, the numbers of the old and the new cards match up, with just the exception of 5199 in lieu of 5205. If you only have the five "old" cards, I know that you can get the five "new" cards. Just contact them and inquire and they will send the new ones. But I don't know about the other way around. I scanned Bob's website, and it did contain the five "old" cards, but not the five "new" cards (with the exception of that replacement Wrath of Khan card). Just FYI: I'm current up to the -79- package of 10 cards. Somewhere along the way, I've also received five cards numbered -0B-. I don't know when I received these, so you may or may not be up to that point in the shipments. I have a total of 800 cards, 10 cards from 79 packs of ten plus 5 "new" -02- cards plus the five -0B- cards. So, if you are missing the above "new" 5199-02-## cards, call or email Atlas to get them sent to you. Just trying to be helpful. After hours, not one card had been downloaded. Their interface stinks, taking over your entire computer, and looking like it is working regardless of whether you stay connected. But even when I stayed connected, I did not receive anything. I tried again a few days later with similar results. I emailed customer support 2 weeks ago and never received a response. I called cross-country and got a receptionist who said both customer support people were out that day, but she would give them my message. She said the average time to respond to email is 10 days!! I told her it had been 2 weeks. Now it is 3 weeks and still no response to email or phone, and one more attempt to download has resulted in nothing. Has anybody successfully downloaded in recent weeks? I managed to download the original cards about a year ago, but cannot get anywhere recently. I have had fits with their CS..well, so far I have only dealt with one person. I had the same issue a few months ago, pitched a fit and threatened to pull all word of them from my site and discourage people from buying it..THAT worked..(shame on me)and I heard from them after a bit and they added the files I needed into a downloadable directory and then I installed 'em myself. Never could figure out why it wouldn't work and when the next batch showed up they downloaded like a charm ?! What I experienced sounds exactly like what you experienced. I couldn't even tell (by their system) that I wasn't downloading anything. They need more people working there, they really do. Doesn't that count for anything? If so how do you prove it? And another thing, I have left feedback for %99.9 of the people I have delt with on eBay. I agree; they've "over-administrated" it. I can appreciate their need to drop items after 30 days. With over 11,000 items just in the Trek category, their total item inventory must be beyond massive. And I can also see why they'd think that the item number is a good thing to include in feedback, but a missing item shouldn't prevent you from leaving feedback. And it didn't used to do that. The only thing that used to prevent feedback (assuming no typos) was if the person you were referencing was no longer registered. Could this have been what happened to you? If you decide to help out on this project then join the group I created once you have signed up and let's see how much computer time we can harness together. Group: Star Trek Collectors and Card Geeks -J!m ------------------ You can use your home computer and the Internet to help search for intelligent life in the universe. SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) has developed SETI@Home to harness the power of hundreds of thousands of Internet-connected personal computers. You can download a screen saver that allows your computer to analyze data from the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico. There is so much data that it would take a huge supercomputer to analyze it all. But giving little packets of data to LOTS of small computers accomplishes the same thing. How does it work? You just download the SETI@Home screen saver program. When you're not working on your computer, it will get data, analyze it, and send it back to the people working on the SETI project. When you click your mouse or keyboard, the screen saver gets out of your way, and will continue its analysis when you're done. If extraterrestrial life is found using the data that your Mac or PC helped process, you'll be listed as a co-discoverer! I also have bookmarks for the different items I want to look for, such as "star trek prop"s and "star trek holo"s. I have on occasion gotten a product prior to the release date, by maybe a day, but since my product gets shipped out again, no retail customers get it and I won't list or sell before the proper date, that's protocol in not just cards, but for movies, books, games... Even if the distributor messed up, they shouldn't have been listed. For those of you that were unaware, those who signed up at the beginning of the series, received one set of 30 cards with their initial shipment. At some point, Atlas replaced 5 of those cards with different ones. Therefore, people who started the set early are missing the 5 new ones, while those that started later are missing the original 5. When I learned of this, I emailed Atlas Editions, and they sent me a new set which included the new 5 cards (no charge). - --Bob (^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^) ) Robert Elden Wilson, M.D., Ph.D. "Personal Brain ( ( -------------------------------- Care Specialist" ) ) ( ( Email: rewilson@ncinter.net ) ) FTP: ftp.ncinter.net/home/rewilson ( ( WWW: http://www.ncinter.net/~rewilson/ ) ) PGP Key: FTP, WWW, or finger -l rewilson@pepper.ncinter.net( (______________________________________________________________) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.3a Charset: noconv Comment: Processed by PGPClick 3.5 iQCVAwUBOOVgEJekfJOFWb8JAQF7SQP/XTCzYpwzYtDHRCXDad3vRFid2bA445a1 Efmyze7zzV7yeKihwdS2I7rlCgnwTgejPJ4XlcT29T/J8yxU3BPPfZVRQwfZmA2a 8OD9Q+mWtA6ng5aKEMmvKwUrpIBwGxT+FaORAhvHdV0JWlI08xFzbwrmGBGzvvCZ ra/qlZLSkVo= =EXdj -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- To Unsubscribe from TrekChat send and put "unsubscribe trekchat" in the body without the quotes. -- Previous message archives are available via WWW at: or via FTP at: ftp.xmission.com --in-- /home/ftp/pub/lists/trekchat/archive
