Ensign Ro Laren Alexander Rozhenko Lieutenant Tasha Yar He reports one case netted him either an autograph or a star thread in 11 out of the 12 boxes. Remember the contest ends tomorrow, so get yer entries in...;) OK, folks, here it is! Rather then a trivia contest chat on Friday, I have decided upon a different sort of contest....a scavenger hunt! Below are a list of 'items' Search the Internet and send me the URL's (not the actual image) of as many images form the below list. Each item has a value assigned. The person with the most points, wins! (In case of a tie, we will have a sudden death round) An extra 500 points can be earned by discovering the theme behind all the images we selected. NOTE: We do NOT know if there actually will be images of all these items, so it may not be possible to get ALL of them. The point is to get as many as you are able to. Decisions of the judges are final. You can not create an image and stick it out on a site somewhere and 'find' it, we will investigate any suspicious submissions, keep it honest...;) The prize will be an autograph card from SkyBox's new release, due out July 5th! Details to be announced. Submissions are due by July 5th, so get searching....;) NOTE: THE AUTOGRAPH CARD IS BEING DONATED BY SKYBOX. THANKS FOR THEM FOR BEING A GOOD SPORT AND DONATING THIS PRIZE! In case you are not familiar with these, there were 6 costume cards (like the star threads), guaranteed one per box, and 4 autos 1:72 plus some other inserts. I opened all my farscape cards and then went back to the TNG stuff. At this point I was just looking for inserts - I did not even look at the base cards. I just thought I'd pass along my 2 cents on the new TNG card set. The short version: Great concept, wonderful chase, fairly well executed. First, the positives: The "common" chase. Wow. I'm impressed. The First Contacts, Crossover Characters AND Alter Egos ALL looked VERY cool and were just plain nice cards! The Q's Quips cards I've pulled so far are nice and certainly different. The Star Threads cards were nice as well . . . . . . to a point. I pulled 2 in consecutive boxes, with consecutive numbers. Both bear identical wear on the front, a small line on the picture of Picard. Both had all black pieces. I was surprised by how much I like this card, especially after all of the reservations I had over them doing them. The common set. Nice cards (save 53 which misidentifies O'Brien as Picard on the back), well distributed. The largest problem is again in the department of common sense. There is simply no way to arrange these cards sensibly in a binder without the cards that have "standing" as opposed to "laying" pictures without them being upside down. And if you turn the front around to make everything look nice and reasonable, the backs aren't correctly orriented. Yuck! Redemption cards. I've said it once, I'll say it again. They suck. Any set worth doing is worth doing right. I pulled a Dwight Schultz Redemption card and I understand there are at least three other (different) ones out there. On an interesting note, in the boxes I've opened already, niether the autograph nor the redemption card has a SkyBox embossing on it . . . hmm. Any one else notice that? So, I continue to bitch about them putting redemption cards in instead of waiting to get people to actually sign and put it out like decent human beings. All in all a very nice set and well worth the money. For my money, though, I'd have to continue to tattest that since this autograph card fiasco began, the only series they've done perfectly right is TNG Season 7. -W.L. Their exclusive license ends this year, but the decision on what to do with the future is being made NOW. What to you wish to see? Where do you wish the license to go? Do you want more auto cards, less auto cards, different inserts, etc...no sets at all? Whatever thoughts are tumbling through your heads, consider putting them down on paper and sending them to: Terry Helton and/or Pam Newton c/o Viacom 5555 Melrose Ave Hollywood, CA 30038 I wrote to them today. I would be happy to share my notes with anyone interested in my drivel, but basically, I told them I felt the line needed a jump start, one way or the other, with SkyBox or someone else. I don't so much care, but the line NEEDS to be run with people who know and understand TREK and non-sports. As much as I have appreciated the people at Hobby Sales, Customer Support and Jeff F. (and I DO), I can't help but think that decisions, marketing strategies and their emphasis is all centered in sports with little understanding of our passions. If I'm wrong, do say so! If the line stays with SkyBox, I suggested the get some people on the team with a non-sports bent. I am not sure of the status NOW, but do you know when Steve was there, he was the ONLY fulltime, entertainment employee? Everyone else was split between the two..imagine..only one person to represent us? I do not know if there is someone for nonsports only now, but that is one issue I would like addressed if SkyBox keeps the line. Just some thoughts....if you DO write them, I would be interested in knowing what YOU had to say! Sure it's nice to look at but I wouldn't want to print part of or all 247 pages. A smaller optional checklist of inserts and autograph cards would be nice. Its all I ever used when trying to finish a set. Any recent set easily prints on a single sheet of paper with plenty of room to scribble on. It's Easy to use too. I'd like to take a step OUT not MORE...;) So, who's taking up a donation for a ultra great scanner for me...;) I'd love one. I considered the issue of full sized autographs for printing, but set it aside. The size of a high quality scan of the proper dimensions to print full sized is pretty big. I suppose it could be a 2 CD collection...:) Lynne > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-trekchat@lists.xmission.com > [mailto:owner-trekchat@lists.xmission.com]On Behalf Of Jeff Jacob > Sent: Thursday, July 27, 2000 11:33 PM > To: TrekChat@lists.xmission.com > Subject: Re: (TrekChat) Questions > > > > My personal viewpoint is, Who needs to print checklists of > thousands of > common cards?
