So.... *** Having cooled off a LITTLE bit, I had this thought.... I want to ask this question.....let's say SkyBox has a product.....umm....Cinema Collection boxed set of 6....sells for $125...they either make a lot or it doesn't sell well, whichever. They have tons in the warehouse. They offer these items at a blow out prices to various distributors or whatever who know offer this product for like $30-$60...blowout city. We sit back and sadly watch our initial investment go down the toilet.... Decipher, who as it is said..IS a gamer company and gamers do benefit from large print runs....takes their oversupply, repacks it with some cool NEW cards and releases it. Same problem....the value of our collection is lessened by the infusion of new product, but we got some new cool cards out of it. I shudder to think about how much money I spent to complete a WB 1994 premier set years ago. I have been attempting to replace my WB cards with BB cards slowly realizing how valueless my WB cards have become, and now I get the "opportunity" to purchase 24 more packs of WB premier cards by completing an Enhanced Premier set. Yippee!!! All the repack items, Anthologies, Reflections, Enhanced XXX, are no good, IMHO. Or are they really contemplating future Trek sets just in case they get it renewed? My thoughts are simple. Stop making sets so expensive that only a handful of people can afford them. I realize that not every collector is a completeist, but those who are or who aspire to be completeists are the ones needed to maintain price levels. The cost of being a completeist is so high that more and more are forced to drop out. Collectors who are not completeists will inevitably define their collection to avoid the more expensive cards. This is why we are already seeing price drops on cards that used to be more expensive. I am not collecting because I expect to make a big profit in 20 years, but I do not want to continue spending thousands of dollars a year keeping up a collection that is now likely to eventually be worth a small fraction of what it cost. on 11/1/00 9:14 AM, Lynne Stewart at lynne@jklm.net wrote: > A few years ago, we ran a contest..design your own Trek Card set... > and a Design your own Bubble Contest. > SkyBox is very interested in hearing what we would like to see in a card > set, or not see. I suppose that is where they teach sellers to upload 8 zillion different Trek card items in 3 seconds, so that I have to wade through page after pag= e of junk (that gets reloaded again the next week since almost none of it sells) all so that every once in a while somebody else's nugget might slip through. The more "sophisticated" eBay gets, the more of a pain it is to look for things there. I am not searching for one particular item - that would be easy enough. I just want to browse the new entries each day to see if I spo= t something I did not know existed, or something unexpected that catches my eye. That does happen often enough to keep me interested, but it is taking longer and longer to do that regularly. on 11/2/00 4:57 PM, Lynne Stewart at lynne@jklm.net wrote: >=20 > Ever wonder how to sell an item on eBay? I went to a card show last month and Steve Charendoff was there and he was displaying that Tsunkatse archive collection subset. In addition, he had another five card subset there which was also due to be available in mid-November. To the best of my memory, it was five cards featuring Janeway, Torres, Seven, and I can't remember the others. Anyways, Mr. Charendoff said that this subset would be only available in Europe through a card distributor called Cards, Inc. I searched through my old issues of Non-Sport Update looking for an advertisement from them, and I only found their address and phone number from a town in England. I really don't want to pay for an overseas telephone call. Does anyone have any other sort of contact with Cards, Inc. and any way of ordering from them? BTW, if anyone is looking to order the Tsunkatse 5 card subset, you might want to try either of the following: http://www.rainbowcardco.com/ http://www.winternet.com/~zbcards/zbcards.htm It may not be on their websites, so you may have to email them and inquire about the Tsunkatse set. I'm not sure if he's the only one or just the biggest or what...anyway, he has a deal with Rittenhouse that seems to be netting him exclusives every couple of months. I am trying to get on a distributor's list so get them. I understand there may be another one due out in in the next few months. The biggest problem is..the biggest problem is...cost...they are more expensive..it's costly to mail them TO the UK, they pay taxes.....AND since it's an exclusive, they rather decide the price...;) The other issue is shipping it back to us...also pricey... Costing you a grand total of about $71.27+ US Dollars. Ouch! I think Ill pass. Unless someone in the US can obtain a mass amount and offer it at a lower price. Which seems highly unlikely if not impossible. Even with rittenhouses recommendation another dealer friend of mine has yet to be contacted by Cards Inc. As I'm discovering, Cards Inc is a Mega major card distributor for the UK. There are no others. Being such a major distributor for so many different products such as sci-fi cons, Related merchandise, and a slew of Sci-fi magazines you would think they would want to cooperate with us foreigners no? The overseas people run into walls when they want to do wrapper offers, get binders, get redemption cards even that Cyberaction MBNA card offer is US only....it's about time they got the upper hand once. They pay alot for their boxes, for their shipping and I'm sure they are delighted to have their chance to be at the head of the line.... Having said that, I think it's a mistake to have only one gateway into the UK (Cards Inc), it limits something we seem to like, competition, fair pricing, no monopolies, but maybe that's their way. First they are raising the percentage of the credit card fees to 2.2%..they are lowering the fees for non credit card fees to 1.6 (why are those transactions charged AT ALL) and EVERY transaction is charged .30 cents...it used to be if the buyer's credit card wasn't gonna be billed, they waived the .30 cents....
