I presume everyone has seen the above auction, although since nobody has said anything, I'm not sure. So just in case: it's the collection of Star Trek art director Matt Jefferies on a kind of eBay thing. The point is, there are some incredible items here. Just wondering, which item people would most want? My choice would be the phaser from Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan. Surely it's the actual one used by William Shatner, because it was the only one used in the entire film. But it's a hard choice, and there are some other superb pieces too. However I did bid on 4 items - inc. 2 sketches and a TNG press kit briefcase. This might seem strange but I actually thought I would get something. So when I logged on this morning, it was a big disappointment, but also a big shock to see how much everything had sold for. They were well above the estimates. The briefcase - which I've wanted for years - had an estimate of 1200 max. So to be "sureish" I put on a bid of $1600. I think it sold for more than 2000. The pictures were double. But the most amazing item of all was a phaser from TWOK. Again I bid 1600 but did not expect to win (top estimate about 2000). However the final price was incredible - fifty thousand dollars. Can you believe that? That's more than for the Enterprise or the original tricorder, and no guarantees it was even used in the movie. Not sure I understand what you mean by "thru the nose".  = You pay=20 a listing fee (in your example, I think it's about 25 or 30 cents f= or each=20 card), then a very small commission if it sells (I think about 8=20 cents).  If it doesn't sell, you can relist it for free, but i= f it=20 doesn't sell the second time, you're gonna pay the 25 or 30 cent pl= acement=20 fee a second time, as well.  They say that they do it that way= to=20 discourage people form listing totally worthless items or from list= ing=20 items with a starting bid that's ridiculous.  I can understand= why=20 they wouldn't want that to happen.

If I had cards to sell that I HAD to get 50 cents each for, I'= d make=20 them into a lot - let's say 10 cards - and list them for a minimum = bid of=20 $2.00.  That's less than the 50 cents each, but if they're wor= th=20 anything at all, the bidding should take them to more than $5.00, s= o it'll=20 be OK.
