Makes ya wonder why they gotta raise all this!! *** This administrative email was sent to lynne@jklm.net based on your account at eBay. eBay Announcement ---- At eBay, we're dedicated to providing you with the most dynamic marketplace we can. We invest a good deal in technology, marketing and customer support to help our buyers and sellers become more successful. We are announcing a number of changes to the current eBay price structure. Effective Thursday, January 31, 2002 we are increasing Final Value Fees, adding a new Reserve Fee price point, charging a fee to use Buy It Now, increasing eBay Motors vehicle Insertion and Final Value Fees, and in late February, changing how we charge Final Value Fees for Dutch listings. Other Feature Fees and Insertion Fees, and fees for eBay Premier and Real Estate remain unchanged. eBay.com changes: Final Value Fees We are adding 0.25% to each Final Value Fee price point. Current New $0.01 - $25.00 $25.01 - $1000.00 $1000.01 and up 5.00% 2.50% 1.25% 5.25% 2.75% 1.50% Reserve Fee We are adding a new price point for Reserve listings above $200. Current New $0.01 - $24.99 $25.00 - $199.00 $200.00 and up $0.50 $1.00 $1.00 $0.50 $1.00 $2.00 Buy It Now Fee A $0.05 Feature Fee will be charged for all auction-style items listed with the Buy It Now feature. The new fee will not apply to eBay Stores Buy It Now items. Dutch Fee Impact The standard Final Value Fee schedule will be applied to each item sold, not to the total dollar amount of the items sold. Thus, the Final Value Fee for each item sold will be identical to the standard eBay Final Value Fees outlined above. eBay Motors Fee Impact (Only Passenger Vehicles and Other Vehicles) eBay Motors is increasing Insertion and Final Value Fees for Passenger Vehicles and Other Vehicles from $25.00 to $40.00. In addition, a $0.50 feature fee will be charged for all Motorcycle auction items listed with the Buy It Now feature and a $1.00 feature fee will be charged for all Passenger Vehicles and Other Vehicles listed with the Buy It Now feature. eBay Motors Parts & Accessories fees remain identical to the new eBay.com fees. eBay Stores Final Value Fee Beginning in late February all fixed price eBay Stores items that are sold in multiple quantities to the same buyer will have Final Value Fees calculated on a per item basis. Final Value Fees for single item sales already are calculated on a per item basis. We recognize that price increases directly impact our sellers, so we do not raise fees lightly or without considering the impact to our community. These increases will help us continue to build a vibrant marketplace by allowing us to invest heavily in technology, marketing and customer support, making it possible for millions of people to discover and use eBay. The article I read said they made 25million PROFIT the 4th Qtr of 2001 and currently had something like 1.2 billion (or was it 2.1) in assets and cash. The only reason I can figure they want to raise rates it to stick-it to all the sellers for as much as they possibly can so the upper management can line their pockets some more. I say they just keep raising rates for no real reason until the seller community finally says "enough!" and the number of listings drop dramatically. If that ever happens then they'll quietly go back to the previous rates. -J!m mailto:encore@xmission.com To Unsubscribe from TrekChat send and put "unsubscribe trekchat" in the body without the quotes. -- Previous message archives are available via WWW at: or via FTP at: ftp.xmission.com --in-- /home/ftp/pub/lists/trekchat/archive ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Lynne Stewart" Subject: RE: (TrekChat) Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 19:15:49 -0500 Date: 18 Jan 2002 20:55:23 -0500 > > I say they just keep raising rates for no real reason until the seller > community finally says "enough!" and the number of listings drop > dramatically. I mean, honestly, it is THE place to go, it's in primetime now, everyone knows about ebay...it's not gonna die a quiet ugly death cause it's too much of what people want and I guess the downsides aren't enough. I am sooo tired of all their automated stuff that helps buyers and sellers never talk directly. there is sooo much more to collecting then that.... I offered a CCG special 15 cards for $10 and received a request for a new buyer who paid via paypal, asking that 14 cards go one place and 1 to another. He also wanted them shipped the next day, Monday, which I obliged. I assumed he was in a tournament and needed them soonly. I shipped them out and as of today, he has not received them. When he wrote last week, he felt I had never shipped them and I said it would be easy to tell once they arrived since I have a postal meter and it prints the date on it. I said when he received them, if he was still disappointed in the time it took to get the cards, to return them to me unopened and I would refund his $$. Today, he wrote wanting a refund, stating he hasn't received the cards. It would now be 20 days since I shipped, minus three days for weekends and holidays. I accept as a seller that it is my responsibility to bear the burdens of the PO. They lose or damage or are late, few will go to the PO and complain, they just go to me. It just seems this is too soon to request a refund. It could be argues that without insurance, I don't HAVE to refund.... Lynne Stewart http://www.jklm.net/index.html KLM Enterprises, Inc. Just MHO, but the first issue is that I think he's rushing it.=  =20 The mails have slowed tremendously since Sept 11 and I would wait a= t least=20 a month for a package that small.  As to whethermyounhave to m= ake=20 good or not - I know YOU will take the responsibility to do so, but= I have=20 had sellers who were only willing to send another item if I paid=20 shipping... again.  And the second time, they decide there oug= ht to=20 be insurance and delivery confirmation.  Guess who pays that?&= nbsp;=20 So, all I'm sain' is that there's no real rule about it.

BTW, don't tell the guy you wanna wait a little longer, just d= o=20 it.

LLAP,
Vince

I need some advice. I offered a CCG special 15 car= ds for=20 $10 and received a
request for a new buyer who paid via paypal, = asking=20 that 14 cards go one
place and 1 to another. He also wanted them= =20 shipped the next day, Monday,
which I obliged. I assumed he was = in a=20 tournament and needed them soonly. I
shipped them out and as of = today,=20 he has not received them. When he wrote
last week, he felt I had= never=20 shipped them and I said it would be easy to
tell once they arriv= ed=20 since I have a postal meter and it prints the date on
it. I said= when=20 he received them, if he was still disappointed in the time
it to= ok to=20 get the cards, to return them to me unopened and I would refund
= his $$.=20 Today, he wrote wanting a refund, stating he hasn't received thecards.=20 It would now be 20 days since I shipped, minus three days for
we= ekends=20 and holidays.
I accept as a seller that it is my responsibility = to bear=20 the burdens of the
PO. They lose or damage or are late, few will= go to=20 the PO and complain,
they just go to me. It just seems this is t= oo soon=20 to request a refund. It
could be argues that without insurance, = I don't=20 HAVE to refund....

The overhead on 'greedy' auctions, to me, makes it not worth listing small items. In reality, the auction hasn't provided any service at all to a seller unless the item sells. In fact, I don't believe I've heard of a similar circumstance in brick and mortar... except classified ads. I suppose if you think of ebay as a classified ad, then it make sense, but I think of it more as an auction or a store, or a consignment shop. In all these cases, I don't believe the service gets paid unless an item sells. Since they are taking a percentage to get it on their pages, then another percentage if it sells, I guess they believe they are a classified add if it doesn't sell (well, even if it does), then as an auctioneer or a consignment store if it does sell.... charging people at both ends ;) This is a pretty pricy scheme for the seller when dealing with 'small' items. ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Monday, January 28, 2002 4:20 AM > In theory, I don't have a problem with it, but it comes back to what we were > talking about before, unless there was another free listing day, can a > common card really be worth the effort to scan list and pay .30 cents each > for? > > Lynne Stewart http://www.jklm.net/index.html > KLM Enterprises, Inc.
