I believe that "Flag" was my first new - plastic sealed vinyl - album as well. At that point I had found "One Second" and I think "You Gotta Say Yes..." and a bunch of 12" singles at a used shop. I got to meet Boris (in his studio) four afternoons during the course of two weeks. I'm sorry if I make any of you jealous, but I still think many of you want to hear about it. Apart from going through each song, step by step (poor Boris) he also played some music from the forthcoming Yello album (planned for early next year). He had 25 songs "in progress" (unfinished), one was very mystical and exciting, one was a bit jazzy, and yet another was "normal" fantastic Yello. It's very hard to describe them but they sounded very dark and exciting. Most of you would have loved them! All 25 songs will of course not be used for the album, or even finished. He also played me some of his un- released soundtrack music (made 'just in case'). He was quite surprised that I knew about the unreleased mixes of "More", and to my great delight he played them to me (I guess he forgot what they sounded like!) and we both agreed that they were not bad at all!! The first two mixes were a bit Latin flavoured, then there were some "dance" mixes too, all were amazing (quite different from the album version). Hopefully they will be released someday. The studio as such was full of equipment of all sorts (only the best of course!), and the garden outside was beautiful! I didn't meet Dieter. All in all everything went fine and I've got tons of work to do now before the book is finished (hopefully it will come with lots of surprises) JW # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info yello" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email yello@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Yello discography available at http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?yello ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Khomuk Olga" Subject: Re: (yello) Back from Zurich Date: 05 Jun 1998 17:59:52 +0400 > Apart from going through each song, step by step > (poor Boris) he also played some music from the > forthcoming Yello album (planned for early next year). > He had 25 songs "in progress" (unfinished), one > was very mystical and exciting, one was a bit jazzy, > and yet another was "normal" fantastic Yello. (I sa= w them at the Warfield in San Francisco last Sunday) Catch some reviews at http://www.gunnar.net/kt/ I quote Jeff Grote from the Kraftwerk list who chatted to some of the tou= r crew =85 =85=85. Q. what is live, and what is recorded? how are they doing their stage show? A. there is a midi clock generated from a prerecorded source (probably th= e bass and drums). this midi clock performs certain patch changes and sequence cues for them, and they play everything else live. the midi clock is also synced with the smpte clock from the video outputs (apparently the videos are on laser disc). absolutely all the sound is generated onstage from klingklang - - there is no tape plugged in at the house mixing console. Q. i have been nearing rumors of a bigger 1999 tour. is it true? A. (gives a big smile) we'll just have to wait and see! (Thanks for all the behind the scenes info Jeff, I hope you don't mind me 'quoting' you !!) So keep your eyes peeled =85 if you missed them this time .. catch them i= n 1999 !!! Which leads me to ask =85 I wonder what the chances are of ever seeing Ye= llo live ??? If Kraftwerk (a group which I always considered to be 'studio musicians') can do it, so can Yello !!! First of all the watch, it's really nice! The set comes in a metal box and fitted cardboard to hold the watch and CD. The case of the watch is a crushed Budweiser can (which is great for me, because I also collect beer mementos), the strap is from a recycled leather seat cover, the workings of the watch are new. There's nothing fancy here, no date, no digital stuff, just simply a watch. The face has New York Recycler around the outside with the ReWatch logo, and the "A Can Is A Watch" saying in the middle. Second, the CD. It's credited to ISO (Industrial Sound Orchestra) and it has four tracks on it. Same song, just remixes. Dieter wrote the lyrics (what few there are) and did the vocals. The music is done by Martin Klolber, and it sounds like the Solid Pleasure era Yello. While Martin is competetent in the music he is definately not Boris! The CD is entitled "The Sound of Recycling" but the song is called Crash Dance. The track order: Crash Dance - A Day in April Crash Dance - A Day in June Crash Dance - Carl's Time Crash Dance - Stachanov Special Crash Dance - Chill In Movement Note track 5 doesn't exist, on the cover of the CD it's listed that it was removed due to a management conflict. The best track is 4 which is the most finished of the tracks. Here's some bizarre parts - the CD itself has the name Carl Crash all over it. For example: On the CD ISO is not listed it's Carl Crash's Crash Dance (a new character for Dieter?); the CD is on Crash Records; Executive Producer is Carl Crash. The CD was recorded at Soundproof Studios, 22355 Carbon Mesa Road, Malibu, California - a division of Yello Music and Motion Pictures. Anyone know about this? To wrap up, yes the watch is worth it (a bit pricy tho), the CD is interesting but not going to chart. And ordering through WatchWorld was easy, however, watch out for the taxes and shipping charges. The added on taxes and shipping bumped the price of the set to over $90.00! In the catalog they sent me there appear to be WatchWorld stores located all over the country, check in your area before ordering from the mail order. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info yello" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email yello@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Yello discography available at http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?yello ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Juhana K Kouhia Subject: Re: (yello) ReWatch/ISO Date: 18 Jun 1998 19:52:21 +0300 > The CD was recorded at Soundproof Studios, 22355 Carbon Mesa Road, > Malibu, California - a division of Yello Music and Motion Pictures. > Anyone know about this?
