Samuel went on a mission to South Africa but because of the political unrest was sent to England. He returned home and married his sweetheart Barbara Ferguson(her twin sister was married the same day). They homesteaded the West Mountain at the end of Utah Lake. After much hardship (raising turkeys and dry farming) he got a cancer in his lip which ate up all their savings and killed him at age 44. Barbara sold the farm and moved the family to Springville where she worked at the Hospital in Provo until her family was raised and her youngest son home from his Mission to England.
