This page is an archive of old news items and may eventually contain other old
material that I want to preserve in some form.
OLD NEWS
May 4, 2008
This news section is getting rather long, so I have moved older items to an
archive. Also, I just got three more phones -
a Stromberg Carlson magneto-type desk set from the 1940's, an original North
Electric desk set from the 1940's, and a pink Princess phone. I have added
pictures and descriptions to the telephone section.

I have added a section on my collection of antique telephones. The
collection has grown lately and it is getting out of hand; there are phones
all over the place. Wherever I look a telephone is lurking. Currently, I
have 31 phones, and all of them work. I also have three ringer boxes. You
can find my telephone collection
here.

As usual, I have been too lazy to update this site for a long time. I have
moved the site to a new location where it is faster and easier to maintain.
Also, I have added to the Abandonment section. I recently visited a number
of sites in Idaho and Montana. New articles on Gilmore, some charcoal kilns,
and ghosts along I-15 have been added. Brief updates to other articles have
also been made. Also, the page on my collection of chemical elements has
been updated.

I have rearranged the site into categories that make more sense. I have also
added a page (under construction) on classical music and a page about my new
collection of chemical elements.

I need to write more articles for this site; I haven't updated it recently.
My life has been rather busy. Hopefully soon more written material will
appear here. The photo to the left, which I just added, is a picture of me
in one of my latest clothing acquisitions - a renaissance-style gown complete
with hoop skirt. It is a great outfit, but not very practical; it is hard to
move around through tight spaces while wearing a hoop skirt.

I have always enjoyed music, and lately I have increased the intensity of
my musical explorations. About two months ago, I started playing the viola,
and I just began taking a music-oriented class at the University of Utah.
I added two essays on the subject of music.

The web server had bugs for a time; it would not let me upload files. That
problem has been solved and I have uploaded a number of updates. I have also
fixed some dead links within the site and have completely tested all links
(as far as I know).
I added one of the many variants of the transgender symbol to the top left
corner of this page. This particular variant is my favorite, but many others
get the point across. The symbol that I added to the top right corner is my
own creation, a simple design with numerous and complex meanings. I will leave
the interpretation to you.
Life goes on. I am as busy as usual, constantly getting involved in new
activities and projects. My latest major project is the viola. A few weeks
ago I bought one and began taking lessons. It is hard work, but when I reach
a reasonable level of competence, it will be a great means of creative
expression. Hopefully I will stick with it until I reach this point.
Wish me luck!
