Re: MtMan-List: Uberti 54 Cal. Hawken
Thanks to all who answered my post about feeding my recently acquired
Uberti Hawken. I will probably try a few more combinations just for
grins, but the .520/.010 combo that you all recommended shines. I
fired her for the first time a few days ago. To help these ole eyes
of mine see center a little better I put a orange 1" dot center
target. On my first shot at 50 yds from a bench it flat punched the
the dot. Not a trace of orange except in th bushes behind the target.
Surely shoots true.
Waffalo - IMHO the Uberti is a very good replica of the Hawkin. I
think at least as good a the Lyman. THe main reason I didn't go for
the Lyman in that I prefer the rust brown barrel and case hardened
furnature over that on the Lyman Plains Rifle. Also I believe the
barrel on the Uberti in heavier being just over 1" accross the flats
then the Lyman which if I remember is 15/16.
Now all I have to do is find a .520 ball mold.
