A man was carrying something that made big noises, and another man was running away from him.  He tripped over Beauregard, sending them both sprawling.

Beau picked himself up and ran off down the street, just as a man in a blue uniform came around the corner and started yelling at the man with the black thing that made noises. Beau was very, very glad that he was going home to his Person, who loved him.
