THE ARTESANIA RINCONADA COLLECTION
IS A BEAUTIFUL SERIES OF HAND-CRAFTED, CERAMIC, WILDLIFE FIGURINES FROM URUGUAY.

Please take a moment to enjoy the delightful story that follows...

Rinconada is a Spanish expression meaning a small corner area. It was chosen as the name of our collection of wildlife figurines by the collection's creators, Jesus and Javier Carvajales, twin brothers from Montevideo, Uruguay. For many years their design studio was limited to a small corner of their livingroom in Montevideo. Now, although their activities have long since out grown the livingroom-corner studio, the brothers continue to affectionately refer to their work as Artesania Rinconada, small corner artisanship. Today, you'll still see the same distinctive initials carved into each of their original designs.

Internationally known for their unique personality, character, and charm, all of the figures making up the Artesania Rinconada Collection are truly representative of the finest contemporary ceramic design and craftsmanship. Each subject is carefully hand-crafted from fine-grain earthenware ceramic material, detailed, and, after initial kiln firing, decorated by hand with enamel colors and glazes used to highlight individual design characteristics. Each subject is then re-fired to preserve its distinctive coloration.

Ceramic artisanship is deeply rooted in the history of the Uruguayan people. The techniques employed in creating the delightfully sculpted figures of the Artesania Rinconada Collection vary little from age old tradition. Timeless also in design, these sculptures appeal to that little corner of our minds that still believes in fairytales. They congregate there with the many other lovable personages and creatures brought into being by the magic of imagination.
