Basic Information
Activities and Interests
- Aviation: I have been flying for several years now, and hold a private pilot certificate with airplane single engine land, glider, and instrument ratings. I mainly fly Cessna aircraft. If you're interested in flying for a good cause, check out the Civil Air Patrol.
- Computer Science: My dissertation research involved using natural language processing and machine learning techniques to identify event patterns in National Transportation Safety Board data about aviation accidents and incidents. As an undergraduate, I worked on database security and data mining.
- Fencing: I'm a member of the United States Fencing Association and the United States Fencing Coaches Association. I hold ratings at foil and epee, and have coached the University of Utah Fencing Club. I am involved with the newly formed Northwest Fencing Club.
- Music: I have played the piano for a long time, and perform on a regular basis. I'm working on voice and would like to find an interesting portable instrument.
