The reason is that ; the exponent of Z is 2.01, which is almost quadratic. The ; parent fractal is a Mandelbrot set, no surprise there, but this ; set is rotated 180 degrees, so that East Valley is on the west ; side of the main bay and the main spike points east. ; ; Both East Valley and the main spike have split into fractalized ; pieces, with the greatest distortion on the southern branch of ; Seahorse Valley and the southern shore of the large period-2 ; bud. But the Seahorse Valley distortion is an FOTD for another ; day. Today we are concerned with the things happening to East ; Valley, which has broadened into a wedge. Today's image lies in ; a curious patch of debris near the northern edge of this wedge. ; ; All this strangeness might appear good in writing, but on the ; screen, even when helped by the 'tdis' outside option, it makes ; an image that I can rate no higher than a 6. ; ; The calculation time is a borderline slow 5-1/2 minutes. The ; best way to avoid the wait is to rush carefully to the FOTD web ; site at: ; ; ; ; and view the finished image there. ; ; Lots of clouds, a little sun and a temperature of 82F 28C made ; Wednesday a rather pleasant but uneventful day here at Fractal ; Central. The fractal cats were not concerned with the outside ; weather however. Nicholas somehow worked open one of the high ; unused cabinets in the kitchen and disappeared inside for a ; couple hours during the afternoon. Cassie checked the space but ; decided not to go in. ; ; In my department, things were about average. The next FOTD will ; be posted in 24 hours, and that certainly is average. Until ; then, take care, and if all electrons are exactly the same, how ; can we distinguish one from another? ; ; ; Jim Muth ; jamth@mindspring.com ; jimmuth@aol.com ; ; ; START PARAMETER FILE======================================= Nearly_Quadratic { ; time=0:05:23.51-SF5 on P4-2000 reset=2004 type=formula formulafile=basicer.frm formulaname=MandelbrotBC3 function=ident center-mag=-0.258603580125043/-0.00230274752051391\ /2.985925e+008/1/166/0 params=2.01/0/1.5/0 float=y maxiter=4200 inside=0 outside=tdis periodicity=6 colors=000RbBUb3ZZ6bW9fSCjPEcYNYfWRodLxmOqnQjnTdnV\ YnXSnUWoRZpPbqMerKhrLkdMnRMpDOoJPnPQmVRl`SkfTjlUir\ ViwjSmzAcsDbmFagIa`K`VN_PP_MRXF3PD5MFQPDDMBBJ99HD4\ GHDFK2EG8LCDR8IXGPYNVYUaY`gYgmYifUj_RlTOmMKoFHp8Eq\ 1cT8zpjzo9zkZzgUzd8z`8zX7zU7`Q7_N7ZR9VVARZCOacKeEG\ iGDmH9pI6qP7qV8ra8rg9rm9nnEjnJfnNbnSZoXVo`RoeNoiLq\ eKraIsZHtVGuREvODwKCxH6tJ1pK5qH9rFDsDHsBIlGIeKIZOI\ SSILWIE_I7cI0gN8hRFiVMi_Tjc_jgfkkmkjniiohipghqegrd\ gscilbjebkZbg`ZcbW_dTWeQSgNOiKKkHHlEPnHWoKcqMjrPqs\ RvL7nK9gKA`JBUJCMIDFIE8HF1HG7myPdefXNwP4oV4g`4_e4W\ b8S_BOXELUHHRKDONALQ9KV9K_8Jd8Ji7In7Is7IwaG9YLBVQD\ SVEPZGMcHJhJGlK9kK2kK5mP8nUBpZEqbHrgKtlNuqQvucx_py\ Er6df5WaE`YNdTWhPclWcOYVK_MHaDEc5B`L83YvG`mTcddeWf\ aZhY`jVclRemOgVbZCqQEpSGoUInWJmYLl_NkaOkcTldXle`le\ dlfhlgllgplhtlhsjarhVrgOqeHpcApb3jZBeVI`SQWOXQKcLH\ kGDrBAygOSl`_qmgkgeKeTNcJ } frm:MandelbrotBC3 { ; by several Fractint users e=p1, a=imag(p2)+100 p=real(p2)+PI q=2*PI*fn1(p/(2*PI)) r=real(p2)+PI-q Z=C=Pixel: Z=log(Z) IF(imag(Z)>r) Z=Z+flip(2*PI) ENDIF Z=exp(e*(Z+flip(q)))+C |Z|
