I gave it this name ; for two reasons: first, because the explosion is divided into ; two distinct halves; second, because it is a tweaking of an ; image that appeared several years ago, and is therefore only ; half new. ; ; The parent fractal is an oversized thing consisting of two large ; bays with a large ring off to the northeast. This ring is ; surrounded by smaller rings, with today's scene located in one ; of these smaller rings. ; ; The half-and-half effect was created by carefully tweaking the ; escape radius, set by imag(p3), until the cutoff point slices ; through the center of the minibrot. The effect in the left half ; of the image was created by rendering the scene with the inside ; set to 'atan'; the right half consists of normal equal-iteration ; outside stuff. ; ; I rated the image at an 8 even though it is kind of a repeat. ; In my opinion, its half-and-half effect justifies such a rating. ; (I sometimes return to past images to see what I can find new in ; them.) ; ; The calculation time of 55 seconds is blazingly fast. And even ; the slight annoyance of setting up and running the parameter ; file may be avoided by viewing the finished image on the FOTD ; web sites. ; ; The finished image is posted at: ; ; ; ; The high-definition version is at: ; ; ; ; The entire library of past images is available at: ; ; ; ; The first day of March here at Fractal Central began with fog ; and heavy clouds. The fog thinned and the sky brightened as the ; day progressed, but the clouds hung on and the conditions never ; reached what could be called pleasant, despite the temperature ; of 48F +9C, which was mild for the season. Early in the day the ; fractal cats gave up waiting for the sun, and spent the rest of ; the time snuggled in the warmest places they could find. ; ; The humans had a normal dull day, (which does not mean boring). ; The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take ; care, and how can we consider the visible material universe to ; be any kind of ultimate reality when all we know of it is ; inferred from images created in our minds -- images that we now ; know reflect only about five percent of all that exists. ; ; ; Jim Muth ; jimmuth@earthlink.net ; ; ; START PARAMETER FILE======================================= Half_an_Explosion { ; time=0:00:55.00 SF5 at 2000MHZ reset=2004 type=formula formulafile=basicer.frm formulaname=MandAutoCritInZ function=recip passes=1 center-mag=+9.910072784924/+5.580966722132/1249903\ /1/-20/0 params=-4/-1.6/-0.8/-7.7/0/1.166686e+016 float=y maxiter=1000 inside=atan periodicity=10 colors=000btTgvOmxJrzEpwQnt`lqkjovklrlinmgjndfobcn\ camd_keZjfXigVhhTfiSejQdkOclNeiWggcidljbth_rfYqdWo\ bTn`RmYPkXNjUKhUIgPGdQEdJBZM9a000J5_C8VSAaSDa`FbcH\ ciKczPdrOezmzzczzNfzcazhYzUUiTPdTLZTHUSCOQ8JS4EU0e\ vPzzzpoUpeZpWbqMgqClq2pDdGCgLCiQBkVBm_BpdAriAtnAvr\ 8tm6rh4pd2n_0mW6pYBrZGt`LvaRuSXtJbsAhr1cc5ZP9VBCbT\ BijBldDn_EqVFsQHvLIxGJzBKtDcoFvtGqxHltMopQqlUshYuv\ hFsmPpqYmufjyoglZd_JaO3cRBeUIfXQh_XjbdkdkjYejS_iMU\ iGOiAIxWoecnOkn6sn6jm6al6Tk6Kj6CjKRdXeZitTgoWLl8Ls\ ALzCQyHVyMZyRTpQNhQH`QBTP5LP0DP9GNIJMRML_PJhSIqVHz\ XGw_EubDrdBpgAmi8kl7in6iPjgLeeI`cFXaCS_9OZ8PY7QX6R\ W5SV4TU4TZ5Vc5Xh6Zl6_jBahHbfMddRenQowQxnYVee1h_1jV\ 1lQ1nL1pG1rB1qAEpARo9co9pjCofEnaGmYJmTLlPNkLPkMTdN\ WZO_SObMPfFQi9Ql3ZpDftNnwXko`hgde_hbSl_KpXDtbKmgQf\ mW_raTfh_WofLvmOjnQZoSNpUBqW0r`sRakWbc_cXccPhdIleA\ pe3tVIsKXsAjsGlmMnhRpcXrZ } frm:MandAutoCritInZ {; Jim Muth a=real(p1), b=imag(p1), d=real(p2), f=imag(p2), g=1/f, h=1/d, j=1/(f-b), z=(((-a*b*g*h)^j)+(p4)), k=real(p3)+1, l=imag(p3)+100, c=fn1(pixel): z=k*((a*(z^b))+(d*(z^f)))+c, |z| < l } ; END PARAMETER FILE========================================= ; ; ; ; _______________________________________________ ; Fractint mailing list ; Fractint@mailman.xmission.com ; http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/fractint ;
