; Today's image is named "Ten to Doomsday".  As everyone who 
; watches TV knows, the world will end on December 21, 2001, ten 
; days from today, on Friday of next week at 23:60:00 hours GMT, 
; the single moment when the day of doom will prevail over the 
; entire earth!  In recognition of the coming end, I am beginning 
; the countdown to destruction today and presenting ten doomsday 
; fractals, the first of which appears as today's FOTD.

; I gave the image no rating.  After all, what is the use of 
; rating an image that will be swallowed up and forgotten in the 
; mists of history in just ten days.  For those who still care, 
; the image is a scene in the area of the period-5 bud on the 
; southwest shore line of the main bay of the Mandelbrot set.  It 
; looks nothing at all like a Mandelbrot bud because it is sliced 
; at an unimaginable angle in four-dimensional space.  To see the 
; Mandelbrot bud in its true form, simply change the p1 and p2 
; parameters to 0,0 and recalculate the scene.

; The prominent vertical pillars are what I call bridges.  They 
; appear only in the odd planes of the Julibrot, and indicate that 
; no matter where the points begin their wanderings, they will 
; eventually settle into the same orbits.

; The calculation time of 1-1/4 minutes is mercifully brief.  With 
; so little time remaining to enjoy life, we would not want to 
; waste a single precious minute.

; 1/2 inch or 1-1/2cm of rain.  A mix of left-over clouds and sun 
; with a temperature of 45F +7C made today feel like a typical mid-

; typical day also.
