She's trained for endurance!
Beginning at the age of six, Jill's evil parents hauled her butt out of the condo in Mammoth Mountain, Calif., every morning of their regular weekend outings. Whether wind, snow, cold or tears, her pleas to remain back to watch Speed Racer fell on deaf ears as they forced her to suffer through bitter storms to ski. Little did they know they were feeding the roots of a professional ski bum.
After all the whining, it’s hard to believe that Jill's one of the few skiers on the hill in a blizzard. As an adult, skiing and outdoor recreation in general are at her core. Her desire exceeds the elements. The level III PSIA-certified instructor, raced for the UCLA Ski Team, graduated and moved to Aspen, Colo., to teach skiing at Aspen Highlands and report for KSPN-TV, a local cable station. No dumbblond bum, she realized she needed more money to support her habit.
She earned a master's degree in journalism from the University of Southern California, and went to work for a CBS-affiliate in Aspen, of course- often reporting on ski events and real-world issues. A job offer at the NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City led her to Utah and the Greatest Snow on Earth. Coincidence? When the station downsized, Jill took a job teaching at Deer Valley Resort, Utah, and enrolled in law school at the University of Utah. Two weeks after graduation, she decided, "I hate law, there's no time to ski," and went back into broadcast.
As 'Roxy,' Jill was well known for her "News From A Broad" newscasts on Rock99/KURR-FM in Salt Lake City. She was an integral part of Utah's #1 morning radio team. She skipped the make-up and business suit, worked a full shift and still skied at Snowbird every day. After four years of harassment by a couple of non-skiing, Harley-riding, couch surfers, she hung out her shingle as a full-time freelance writer and broadcast talent.
Jill has been teaching at Deer Valley for 15 years and sports modeling for even longer. When she's not shooting or skiing, she's writing stories for publications like Ski Press, Sunset, Sportsguide, Skiing, Freeskier, Hooked on the Outdoors and Park City magazines and Ski News, Salt Lake Tribune newpapers. She is also the Utah editor for OnTheSnow.com.
When the seasons change, she rockclimbs, hikes, kayaks and plays Frisbee with her Australian shepherd. Her favorite food: Chinese, but nothing deep-fried. She also likes flowers, candles, plants and sexy lingerie.
