  54. Freight trains under the charge of Captains Canfield, Jakeman, Shurtliff, and others also left Florence, Nebraska for Salt Lake City in 1863
  55. Very few were in this company since the train included some 500 miles for the Deseret Telegraph Line.
  56. With the arrival of Holman's and Muford's trains in 1868, travel across the plains with ox or mule was terminated. The construction of the Transcontinental Railroad from the Missouri River to San Francisco, California was completed 10 May 1869 with the driving of the last spike at Promintory Point, Utah.
