San Luis Bay Inn.

Vacation activities in and around San Luis Obispo California.

The days are warm and the nights are cool. As late winter gives way to early spring on the Central Coast, the City of San Luis Obispo — and the surrounding countryside-lives up to its reputation as a magical place to be.

Beginning with the enchanting scenery of this picturesque city, home to approximately 40,000 residents, visitors can enjoy a drive through sparkling streets lined with lovely Victorian-style and California Mission buildings.

Downtown San Luis Obispo is home to the two-century-old Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, founded in 1772, which looks as if it were built yesterday. Surrounding the church is Mission Plaza, a tastefully landscaped public square that houses sidewalk cafes, the Art Center and the County Historical Museum.

And it is here, once a year, where all the fun, frivolity and gaiety of Mardi Gras comes to life. On Saturday, February 24, one of San Luis Obispo's liveliest citywide events will wind its way through downtown streets, past quaint shops and unique restaurants, capturing the excitement and merriment of a true New Orleans style parade.

Ten to fifteen thousand area residents and visitors are expected to help celebrate the parade's theme this year, aptly entitled "It's Magic." Everyone is expected to join in the fun, wearing gaudy costumes and catching commemorative doubloons tossed by merrymaking members of the parade entourage. The evening of revelry begins at 7 p.m., and continues after the parade with Cajun-style music and a masked ball.

Mardi Gras happens just once a year, but the most renowned Farmers' Market on the Central Coast happens once a week, year-round, on Higuera Street in downtown San Luis Obispo. Visitors can dine on barbecued goodies, enjoy street entertainers and puppet shows, and stuff their market bags with freshly picked vegetables.

For those Central Coast visitors wanting magic with a touch of youthful energy and inventiveness, the weekend of April 27 and 28 brings out the best of the area's state university, California Polytechnic. Poly Royal, a celebration of the cultural and educational achievements of the university, is open to the public and provides a variety of entertainment to more than 100,000 students, area residents, visitors and guests throughout the weekend. The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce provides information on area events and sightseeing through its Visitor Center, downtown at 1039 Chorro Street, Just a few steps away from Mission Plaza. Self-guided walking tours are available, as well as maps and information on surrounding areas.

Getting More Beautiful By the day

When the Glen Ivy Construction crews go to work, look out! They make things happen fast and that's just what is happening now at one of California's premier resorts, San Luis Bay Inn.

When Glen Ivy first acquired the Inn, the rooms were typical hotel facilities. Potential for growth and conversion to condominium style suites a la other Glen Ivey resorts were everywhere. Though the rooms were excellent for what they were (hotel rooms), that is not what vacations owners with Glen Ivey expect.

Immediately upon acquisition construction began on the fourth floor to build an Imperial Suite and a Mini Suite.

Since that time, Glen Ivey Construction has begun new phases of the total conversion process. The Goal is to have ten units complete by Christmas.

Construction has been completed on the health club room adjacent to the pool. The process of picking a well rounded selection of workout equipment is underway.

Plans are being finalized now for renovation of San Luis Bay Inn's beautiful lobby area.  President Ralph Mann has made it clear the rebuilding here MUST retain the classic flavor that has helped make the Inn so famous, and that's what the plans call for.

Ownership at Glen Ivy's San Luis Bay Inn is luxury to be enjoyed today and tomorrow.
