Classical Homeopathy

The Principles of Healing Established by Christian Samuel Hahnemann, M.D. (1755-1843)

What are some of the reasons why people decide to use alternative and complementary treatments, like Homeopathy?

  1. A person may be trying to live in a way that is in harmony with nature, for example eating unprocessed foods, drinking pure water, exercising outdoors regularly, and so on, and the idea of medicines that correspond to this idea of gentleness and cooperation with natural processes is appealing to them.

[ On a related note, some individuals are aware of their sensitivity to ordinary drugs, who actually feel worse when using them.]

  2. Some people who have considerable discomfort, or at least sufficient awareness of their body to know that something is not right, are told repeatedly by conventional physicians that nothing can be found, that there is nothing wrong. Since the Homeopath needs only the person's description of what troubles him, and his explanation of his experience of living in general, the absence of a medical diagnosis in these cases is not a barrier to selecting the appropriate Homeopathy Remedy. One of the great blessings of Homeopathy is when these individuals can be restored to health even before illness has progressed to the point where there are measurable signs of disease.

  3. Some people who have been under treatment of conventional physicians for some time and have not experienced a degree of relief that is satisfying to them, decide to try an alternative method, like Homeopathy, Acupuncture, or Herbal Medicines.

[ Many chronic conditions fall into this category, health problems which worsen over time, slowly or rapidly, no matter what conventional treatment is undertaken to try to stop the progress. Often these have started after some severe emotional or mental stress, injury, acute illness, vaccinations, or a therapy which has suppressed symptoms without bringing lasting cure, as is the case with antibiotics, psychotropics, and hormones, including contraceptives and steroids.]

  4. In some cases where mainstream medicine has informed a person that his or her condition is not curable, alternatives are sought. In some of these cases, unexpected outcomes are experienced. One must be mindful though that for conditions where the body has become very weakened, the faculties of self-regulation and regeneration, upon which Homeopathy and other natural modalities depend, already may be sufficiently damaged as to preclude restoration to health. Even in these cases, however, sometimes welcome relief can be gained, although temporarily.

  5. Many visit a Homeopath the first time because a close friend or a relative has told them that a Homeopath has helped them. They return because they themselves have been helped.

  6. Some people experience frequent recurring illness, for example one ear infection after another, despite treatments which make each one go away, like antibiotics. Perhaps the response of successive episodes to the relieving treatment is lessening over time. It may seem to the sufferer that something more fundamental is wrong deeper inside the body, which is not being addressed by those treatments.
