Tales of the Time Lord: Season 31

Power Imbalance

The TARDIS is thrown off course, into a strange area of the Vortex which provides access to all the alternate time lines. Unsure of the way back to their home time line, the Doctor and Julie decide to explore, and soon get wrapped up in a classic tale of rebels seeking to depose a king. But all is not what it seems...

From Episode One:

The Doctor ignored her and examined a nearby tree. He considered sitting beneath it and having a nap. Really strongly considered it. Until he heard Julie started growling. "Hey! Back off! Who do you think you are?" He turned.

A group of burly, unshaven men were hassling Julie. He noted about ten near her with more arriving from over a small hill. "Don't think she likes you much Bob," one snickered. "Best let me have a try." He removed Bob's hands from Julie's arms and replaced them with his own. Julie was not at all pleased. When he tried to pick her up, she biffed him in the ear. The action hurt her hand, but he stopped.

The Doctor meandered over to the group, trying to look casual. He peered over a dirty, leather clad shoulder and clicked his tongue. "Not the best of ways to make an impression on a young lady," he informed, "unless, of course, you're attempting to impress her arm."

Bob gave him a dirty look. "Seems as if we got us a tough guy boyfriend here."

The Doctor managed to look surprised. "Me? A tough guy? I've never been called a tough guy before. Well, at least not in this connotation." The attention of the group was turning towards him. A circle began to form around him. "Being completely unfamiliar with this situation, is there something I should say in reply? Perhaps . . *ahem* . . ." He altered his accent to match the mood of his last statement. "Oi, you! Get yer mitts off 'er!" He smiled, his voice returning to its normal, gentle tones. "There, how was that?"

"Fine, just fine," Bob replied. "Would you like to know what our response to that should be?"

"Well, we've gotten this far, might as well take it all the way." He clapped his hands together with a gentle glee. "Right then, what do you get to do?" Bob grinned and punched the Doctor rather hard in the stomach. The Doctor, in surprise and not a little pain, doubled over. His eyes bugged out, he gasped for breath. "I say, I don't think I care much for this." He wheezed once again.
