Health in the Navel

In this presentation we first looked at the cell level for irregularities. Next we looked at possible contributing factors in the blood, and then in the digestive system. Our hypothesis is that the root cause of physical symptoms of fibromyalgia is the result of an intestinal flora imbalance within the digestive system. This imbalance then creates a "domino effect" negatively impacting other systems in the body.

Are there other findings that lend support to this hypothesis? A survey of 1324 fibromyalgia patients taken in 1990 by Dr. Carol Jessop found the following results:

Before onset of symptoms there appear to have been a high percentage of conditions related to digestive system disorders in those surveyed. The high percentage of yeast infections could also be indicative of an imbalance in intestinal flora. When the "friendly" bacteria in the intestine is weakened or destroyed, an environment is created where the more aggressive candida yeast can overpopulate the area and make it difficult for the "friendly" bacteria to recolonize the intestinal area.

White spots on the nails is sometimes an indication of low zinc levels. There has been found a correlation of low zinc and an increase in "Substance P" in the cerebrospinal fluid. It is believed that elevated levels of "Substance P" increase sensitivity to pain signals that people with fibromyalgia experience. A sensitivity so great that for some, even the touch of clothing against the skin can invoke pain.
